Bum Marketing In A Nutshell

Numerous internet capitalists and enterprising webmasters understand the worth of article marketing.

Think of it this way: the moment an article is forwarded to an article index, it can chosen up by many online and offline publications.  And because such an article cannot be reprinted without putting the additional resource box, you’d be able to reveal your URL to a lot of people.

But here’s the thing: article marketing is a responsibility.  You will have to write and tender at least 4 pieces of writing every week just to be competitive.

But what if you don’t have the time to  compose and present compositions that often?

Is there an easier strategy to accomplish things?

You’re blessed!  There is really a comparatively novel method that swears to place your website in the front page of SERPs just by tendering one article – correct, only ONE composition – to one, two or three composition indexes.

This way is coined Bum Marketing, and it was thought by an innovative online marketer named Travis Sago.  When it was first published towards the last part of 2006, it made quite an impression in the arena of eCommerce, and for best explanations at that.

So what is Bum Marketing and how, exactly, does it operate?

Bum Marketing initializes with the selection of the right keywords.  Nothing hot you might say?  Think once more.  We’re not just searching for any keywords.  We’re hunting  for a phrase that individuals  really utilize to look for facts on the internet, where such phrase controls a good number of explorations but is given by only a number of channels.

For instance, you have picked the subject “dog training.”  The topic commands thousands upon thousands of searches per day.  On the other hand, the exact keywords of “dog training” carries millions o web sites in the search engines.

The topic is very broad.  If you use the keywords as they are, you won’t be able to acquire many guests for your website.

The solution?  You need to reduce it.

“How to guide your dog to fetch the broadsheet,” the precise key phrase, gets a mere 300,000 web pages.  This fact is simple to command!

The next step you need to do is to compose a piece of writing that will contain the key words above.  The principal words should come up at least thrice for every 100 words of text.  A 250 to 1,000 word composition will suffice.

You can do this by getting your article(s) published on websites like American Chronicle which are connected to Google News. Since such websites are syndicated with Google News, your article and your photo will become available to millions of internet users, as you publish your article through Google.

Lego space menImage by Gaetan Lee via FlickrEveryone who wants a higher search engine ranking knows that article marketing is an easy and free way to build exposure for your site. But that’s not the only thin you can do to attract more customers to your site.   Another often-overlooked source of highly targeted visitors and potential buyers is this…

Writing “guest articles” on a related blog in your industry. It’s as simple as writing to the owner with a possible offer they can’t refuse.  You agree to write one (or more) blog posts for them in exchange for the typical by-line at the bottom – and they get to take the day off from writing in their blog.  It’s a win-win situation for both parties – and it’s free!

To get the most benefit out of being a guest author, you’ll want to be prepared beforehand.  Here’s what you do:

  1. Brainstorm possible articles you could write for the blog you’re interested in.Write up a few quick outlines for possible writing topics before you email the site owner. Who knows, perhaps one or two postings will lead to a spot as a regular contributor?
  2. Craft your resource box carefully.  This is the 3-5 line bio that appears at the end of your post.  You want to drum up interest in your products with your bio, as well as showcase your expertise in the field.  Not to mention sprinkling a few keyword phrases in for good measure. So for example, let’s say Jane is a guest author for a blog about dog grooming, and she wants to promote her own dog grooming business in the bio box.  Rather than writing something like:Jane Doe works as a professional dog groomer at 123 Dog Groomers.  Visit her site at www.123DogGroomers.com for more dog grooming tips.As you can see, there’s no real incentive there to click.  Instead, consider writing a more interest-generating resource box, such as:

Dog grooming professional Jane Doe runs www.123DogGroomers.com selling top-quality dog grooming supplies and products to pamper your pet and keep them looking great!  Visit our website for 10% off your order!

By using the power of targeted keywords as well as a coupon code for visitors, Jane will get more relevant traffic and orders to her site from this single article!

  3. Have some samples ready. If the blog owner is interested in your site, chances are, they’ll ask you to provide some samples of your writing. Even if you’ve never guest authored a blog before, have some sample articles ready to show them your experience and writing skills. It will go a long way in helping you build credibility, writing skills and communication with your target audience.

In the end, even if the blog owner says “no thanks”, there are literally millions of blogs for you to consider.  To find them, simply search Google for “yourkeyword blog” – and replace “yourkeyword” with your type of industry, such as “dog grooming blog”.

Here’s to your success as a newly published guest author!

How to Blog for Profit

Image representing WordPress as depicted in Cr...Image via CrunchBaseBlogging is not just a form of self-communication, it’s also an excellent way to make money online. If you’re new to blogging and yet want to start quickly, there are several business models you can try for maximum results in a short time. This article discussed the three most popular methods.

The first method is get paid to blog or paid blogging. Create your blog and add a few decent articles as the content. Then you signup with paid blogging networks like Pay Per Post or Review Me and see what “opportunities” are available. These networks are filled with advertisers looking for blogger who can help them spread the word, and they are willing to pay. Accept the opportunity, write about it on your blog, and you get paid.

The second method is WordPress and AdSense and it requires a little more technical know-how. You need to build a WordPress blog on a specific niche topic, and start writing some good content on it. At the same time, try to get links from other blogs by leaving comment on the blogs or by doing a link exchange with the blogger. The objective is to get more traffic who will click on your AdSense ads and make you money.

The third and most sophisticated method is affiliate marketing with WordPress blogs. Again, you set-up a good WordPress blog but with this model the amount of content you publish is not as important as the “selling quality” of the content. Each post you write must pre-sell the web visitor and convince him to click on your affiliate links. When the visitor makes a purchase online after that, you get credited for the sale and earn commissions.

Ultimately, which model you choose depends on how much time and resources you can dedicate to creating and managing your blogs. Your best bet is to choose a low-investment option at first. When you get the hang of it, you can venture into other blogging models as well.

How To Make Your Blog Appealing

make your blog appealingOur blogs can be a very powerful tool where we can express ourselves to the world. When done correctly you will gradually build a relationship with the readers of your blog. While your blog may already be effective, there are a few things you can do to ensure that both you and your readers continue to enjoy your blog.

Post often and on time. If you post a blog called “Tuesday Travel Tips”, readers will expect to see new posts on Tuesday, especially if you start out that way. Your blog is similar to a newsletter and it is important to be consistent with it. This will help increase the number of people who visit your site and return for a repeat viewing. When readers are interested and come back frequently, you are able to eventually build up a relationship with those regular readers. On my fishing blogs I have even found a few new fishing buddies.

Use content from other sources. It’s really alright to use information from other sources, just be honorable and give credit where credit is due. You may want to comment on a news story you found or a particular website that you found of interest. Just be sure to provide the source information and a link at the end of your post, if available.

Your blog can be a great place to give props to other bloggers. After all if I learn something from another blog why not share that with my readers if it will benefit them. You can highlight featured bloggers and provide a link for your readers to check out that blog. This gives you the opportunity to network with other bloggers and offer your readers a complete experience by providing additional good information to them.

Find the right blog theme template. I had to go through a few blog templates before I found the ones that did what I wanted for both our readers and for search engine optimization.

It’s essential that you take care in setting your blog up so that it is easy to read and easy to navigate. Readers often want to be able to find past postings and want to see how you organize your thoughts. You can list past or recent postings by placing them down the side of your page or by placing links to them in current blogs to which they relate.

Pay attention to Categories. It is also helpful to separate your postings into topics if this makes sense for your blog. It makes it easier for readers to find several posts on a particular topic and will not tie them down. Making information easily accessible is a great way to ensure ease for readers and make them come back again and again. Having a search function available is another way to gain repeat readers.

I always arrange posts so that the most recent posts appear the the top of my page or on the first page of our site. This allows readers to quickly see the topic(s) for that day and showcase your newest postings first.

Besides just the layout of your blog, it is important to include relevant and accurate content. Double check anything that you are not sure of and only post what you know to be true without a disclaimer. Being honest and printing only the truth will help to enforce the validity and credibility of your blog.

On the same token, respect the privacy of others. Never rent or sell the email addresses of your readers to other sources. If a third party wants to be promoted to your group of readers, you should be the one to promote it via your blog and not by discrespecting the privacy of others, which they have entrusted to you. In addition, do not use names of individuals in your postings unless you have received their permission first. When it comes to businesses, take care to only post if appropriate.

Finally, you have to make readers want to come back to read your blog again. Readers want personality and human emotion to be evident in what they read, so find ways to connect yourself to the readers.

I personally find blogging to be fun and rewarding, but I do work at it and there is always room for improvement, so take the time to put forth the effort to make it so. It is a flexible business, but you should always follow the basic rules to ensure that visitors are always amazed at the freshness of your blogs. Research additional techniques that other great blogs use, and come up with your own tactics to make your blog the best!

nofollowOver the past six months it seems I am waking to more and more comment spam. I moderate any and all comments but the time it takes each day is increasing and is most annoying as well. For this reason I have returned to NoFollow on my comments.

I thought using a DoFollow plugin would increase the number of comments and I was right, just not in the way I expected. Instead of increasing my comments with more relevant content I only attracted more spammers to my site than before.

I figure the Akismet plugin catches 95% or more of the spam but there was still too much getting through to keep the DoFollow plugin active.

I used the DoFollow plugin to help my readers as I like finding and using blogs that use a DoFollow plugin for comments myself. I don’t spam and I try to say something that will add to the blog post content for that page.

There are other plugins that will benefit those readers that take the time to comment with real content that will help my other readers.

I have switched back to NoFollow and will soon add a plugin that will show the commentors that comment the most and because I moderate those comments the spammers that don’t get caught by Akismet will soon give up trying.

If you have a list of plugins that would benefit you as a reader and commentor leave me a comment and tell me what they do, and where they can be found. Please and thank you.

clones of one man on green fieldImage via Wikipedia MadLibs… Say what!?? Well, that was my response when I first heard the term MadLib, but soon found a new power I never knew about.

Once I learned what a MadLib was and how to use it to make money I then found DataPresser.com where I put what I learned to good use. My first MadLib allowed me to create enough unique articles for six months of posts on one of my travel sistes. As each day pasted and a new article was automatically posted I started getting requests for placing ads.

Here is an article that will help you understand what a MadLib better than if I tried to explain it myself.

How to Write a Madlib
By Tonia Jordan

Madlibs can be highly amusing, and a good way to spend some time if you’re looking for something fun to do.

They’re pretty easy to do, so they should also be pretty easy to create, right? Not exactly. To create a successful Madlib, you need to keep a few things in mind:

1. Know your parts of speech. This is the most important one. When you’re asking someone for a noun, verb, adjective, etc., you need to be sure you’re clear on what these are. Otherwise, the end result isn’t going to work. Here are some quick, general definitions and examples of five basic parts of speech most often used in Madlibs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

Noun – a person, place, thing, or idea, (e.g. Brian, Paris, shoe, freedom) often marked by the articles, “a,” “an,” and “the.”

The boy sang a song about love.
In this example, boy, song and love are all nouns.

Pronoun – a word that takes the place of a noun (e.g. he, she, it)

She ate an apple.
In this example, she is a pronoun.

Adjective – a word that modifies a noun or pronoun. In general, an adjective tells the reader what kind, how many or which one.

Alex rode a red bicycle.
In this example, red is an adjective (describing the noun, bicycle).

Verb – a word that expresses an action (e.g. run, jump, paint, sing) or state of being (e.g. is, become, seem).

Sarah wrote a sonnet.
In this example, wrote is a verb.

Adverb – a word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb, and generally answers the questions, where, when, how, why, under what circumstances, and to what extent.

Ann skipped happily.
In this example, happily is the adverb (modifying the verb, skipped).

These parts of speech are very basic and cover a broad area, so our next step in creating a successful madlib is:

2. Be specific. You know what kind of word you have in mind for each blank in your Madlib, so be sure to be specific enough to your reader, so they can choose a word that fits well. Some things to keep in mind:

Singular or Plural?

When asking for nouns, indicate whether they should be singular or plural. Let’s see an example:

Singular: John threw a book across the room.
Plural: John threw a books across the room.

Singular works best here, so you should ask for a singular noun for this blank.

Being specific will clear up any confusion or inconsistencies in your Madlib.

Verb Tense

When asking for verbs, specify whether they should be present or past tense (or even future tense). An example:

Present: Yesterday, Liz dance with Roger.
Past: Yesterday, Liz danced with Roger.

Clearly, past tense works best here.

It’s a good idea to be specific with all your blanks. That way, your reader knows what kind of words to fill in instead of guessing, running the risk of the Madlib sounding awkward later.

Of course, being specific works only to a certain point.

3. Don’t be too specific. Asking for a number is fine, but asking for a number “between one and five” is a little too specific. There is an element of chance involved in Madlibs. Sometimes a reader chooses a word that fits perfectly (which may not make the Madlib as entertaining), but let that chance be up to the reader. That’s part of the fun of Madlibs.

The rest is pretty much up to you. Madlib writing isn’t an exact science. Experimenting and testing is key. Write a Madlib, and try it out yourself before you let it loose on everyone else. Try other Madlibs and find out what you think works and what you think doesn’t work.

Madlibs can be lots of fun and very entertaining for the creator and for its participants.

Five Tips to Managing Time with Your Blog

KYOTO, JAPAN - FEBRUARY 9: Ichimame, an 19-yea...Image by Getty Images
via Daylife
So you want to start a blog but you are afraid you do not have the time to devote to it?  If you want to have your own space on the internet and have the opportunity to show your inner self to the world, blogging may be the answer.  Consider these five tips to making your blog as time efficient as it is exciting.

1.  First of all, you may want to consider setting up a community blog.  A community blog is one that is run by many people who are like minded, instead of simply by one individual.  This helps to eliminate the needs for constant posting by one person.  With several people comprising a team of bloggers, each person can post a couple of times a week and result in a blog that is relatively active.

2.  If you do not want to create a blog with a community of bloggers working together, you can also choose to hire a team of bloggers.  This is similar to the way newspapers use contributing authors for articles.  In fact, many successful blogs are successful because they do just that.  This helps to insure active posting and timely posting, thus making your blog more appealing to visitors.  This also helps to increase your audience because each blogger will bring with it his or her own group of influence.  Like this idea but not sure about the expense?  You can offset the cost by allowing the display of Adsense
advertisements.  This can, in fact, even turn out to be a profit making venture as well.

3.  Next, you can recycle content to save time.  Search for relevant articles on your topic(s) and break them down into segments appropriate for a blog.  You can also use partial interviews and other things.  Consider selecting a longer piece and breaking it down into smaller blogs that could last a week.  You can set this up and post parts daily as a series.

4.  Another way to save time is to use audio in your blog.  Some people simply find it easier to speak into a microphone than to write something.  It is perfectly acceptable to mix things up and use a variety of both in your blog.  Use an MP3 recorder or phone to record your blogs.  This is convenient for those who stay on the go or those who are held up in traffic or an unexpected meeting.  You can record thoughts as soon as they come to you instead of having to wait and try to remember it all later.

5.  Finally, you can automate your blog.  Many blog programs allow you to create blogs ahead of time to be published at a future date and time.  So, if you have some free time, you can create blogs for the rest of your week.  Automate them to post each day, and your blog remains updated with no extra work on your part.  This can be a huge timesaver if you do not have to sit at the computer to type every single day.  There are days when we do not have enough time or space to say everything we want to say.  There are other days when we would prefer not to talk at all.  Instead of having several entries on one day and then nothing for the next two or three days, you can write it all at once and have it post each day.
