Forgive me but I am not sure who it was that asked me if they could promote their Build A Niche Store on Squidoo but I smiled and said no you can’t, that’s my territory and then of course I laughed.

Of course you can promote your BANS pages on Squidoo.

Squidoo is an excellent place to create a well focused page on any topic, build a niche store script included. Just take the time to look and see who had already published about what is on your mind to promote and then do something slightly different to make it unique. Be sure to stick to your topic, so that you get the best results from search engine indexing.

Using Squidoo to promote your build a niche store pages isn’t much different that promoting your BANS sites using article marketing. The great, well one of the great things about Squidoo is that you can do so much more than you would if you only promoted or published your articles on article directories. There’s just too many restrictions on most article directories.

When I publish articles into article directories the ads that flow around the page are not my ads so I don’t make anything when people click them, however…

… when I use Squidoo to promote my products, services and sites I can add so much more to the page, including ads that I can earn money with. It makes article marketing much more exciting.

Article marketing (sometimes referred to as bum marketing) is a well known method of attracting traffic to your web site. With a popular topic, and a bit of knowledge, you can succeed in directing more traffic to your website. Here are 5 tips to help you out.

Tip 1 – Have a Relevant and Timely Topic

Make sure that whatever you are writing about is relevant and timely. That way more people will be willing to read it, and are more likely to click on the links within the article. One idea would be to pick a broader topic and then get News Alerts on that topic. These will let you know what is newsworthy. Google is one possible source for these News Alerts.

Tip 2 – Post Multiple Articles

Some writers post one article and that’s it. This normally does not work. Visit Ezine Articles and look at their list of top authors. Not only do they create hundreds of articles. Some create thousands. For now, aim at creating a few, and then go forward from there.

Tip 3 – Make Your Articles Viral

The basic way to do this is to publish your article in places that will allow others to make copies on their own sites. Some website owners will go to an article directory like Ezine Articles (short form EZA), or even smaller ones like the Come and Read Article Directory and copy articles for use in their newsletters, or on their websites. An advantage that the smaller directories have is they usually allow more generous download limits than EZA. Where EZA might limit publishers to 25 articles per year, the smaller ones like Come and Read have no limits. In all cases, the publishers are expected to include the original author’s links.

Tip 4 – Short and Simple

Each article you write must be short and simple. You want it short so that it will not bore the reader. The suggestion is 300-450 words, although some publishers require larger sizes. You want it simple so that the reader will be able to understand the message you are trying to convey.

Tip 5 – Publish on Your Own Site Too

One common suggestion is that for every 5 articles that you publish in article directories, you should have 10-15 articles on your website. Make sure all 15-20 articles are unique.

Bonus Tip 6 – Just Do It

How are you at creating your own graphic headers? Personally I love creating them for myself and my clients but not every one is ready to take that on.

I love using Photoshop and Xara Extreme to create header images but not everyone has the skill needed to use these tools or the money to spend on them, especially Photoshop.

If you are trying to make money from blogging or some other online venture there are certain things you must do if you are not to fail: you must get visitors and you must rank in the search engines. You can achieve both of these goals by paying for visitors at the search engines via pay per click or you can get visitors for free using article marketing.

The first thing you should do is research your article marketing topic. There are many excellent keyword tools available to help you choose which keyword phrases will bring you visitors but also you need to make sure there is little competition as well or you will not get good rankings at the search engines. Your targeted phrases need to be related to your sites topic and be getting plenty of search queries but not too many results. Read a more detailed post about keyword tools for a better explanation.

Once you have picked out your keywords you will want to use it in your articles title, a few times at least in the first paragraph, once or twice in the body and once again in the closing for optimum results.

Always write for the reader when article marketing. In other words write it for people, not Google. Yes you can help it rank well by research and keyword tools but it’s no good being number 1 in Google if no one reads the article. Keep it simple and to the point. Use bullets or numbers as they get your point over better.

Once completed, read it several times and make sure it is written correctly and that you have your keywords in the right places. Once you have done that, check it again, several times. If it doesn’t quite read correctly, rewrite the part and don’t forget, while you may be an expert on the subject, your reader is not.

Summing up your article is the most important {part-section} and many who rely on article marketing miss this part all together. Your article gives the reader information that they have searched for but now you want them to be hungry for yet more info by going to your own site. Make it clear the benefits of clicking your link and visiting your site. Simply asking for the click doesn’t cut it any more. Explain to them exactly why they should and what they can expect to find: a a more detailed article, A valuable resource they can use etc.

Finally be choosy where you submit your articles and it helps greatly if you rewrite it every time you submit it somewhere new. Submit the original version to ezinearticles.com and hang fire until they accept it before submitting it to any of the other directories. This is because ezinearticles are the busiest article directory so get the most visitors but they won’t articles that have already been posted on other sites.

Article marketing is still the easiest means of promoting a business online without spending ridiculous amounts on advertising. Just 1 article every day means around close to a hundred articles on perhaps thousands of other sites in just three months time all with links promoting your blog.
