Why am I Not Getting Any Traffic?

I would have to say that in my years as a marketer online the number one question I am asked is “Why am I not getting any traffic?”.  Because I am Brad Callen and have developed SEO software for years I feel like I know a little about the subject so allow me to try and help some of the newer marketers with a few tips to get started.

I would have to say that despite the fact that there exists loads and loads of information out there on SEO, a lot of which is not likely accurate anymore, most people have the knowledge necessary to execute a well rounded SEO campaign already.

The beauty of SEO is that it’s very well structured.  I know what it takes to rank for “Brad Callen” based on data.  As much as we try and mystify it, it comes down to hard data and action to achieve success.  This is a great thing for you because what it tells you is that ranking for any keyword is achievable for any person regardless of who you are and what your current situation is.

So why is it that most people don’t have high ranking websites?

Here is what I think based on my own personal experience and in dealing with a lot of people on a personal level.

1.  They are not willing to rework or optimize their pages for SEO

A well rounded SEO campaign is comprised of both on-page and off-page factors with title tags being the most vital of the on-page factors. Once you make it to a SERP’s page having the right META description will help your website get click throughts but having that META description and META keywords around your niche is not going to help you rank.

Focus your pages content.  Think one page, one topic and focus building each page of your website around this.  In addition make sure all your content surrounds a major “theme” and stay within it.

2.  They think building out a website with very little original content or duplicate content will allow them to rank well

Google and the other major SE’s are moving towards stressing value as assessed by your peers meaning that if someone links to you it is like saying, “Hey thanks for putting up a great website!” to Google.

Without trying to reinvent the wheel, think about how the sites ranking well in your niche or market are building their theme and their content and try and differentiate yourself. Successful webmasters know how to pick successful topics so use those as a basis for new content.

3.  They care what their page rank is

Download the Google toolbar, enable the “view PageRank” option and look at the top 10 results for any given search term. It becomes obvoius that PageRank has nothing to do with website rank.  In fact the PageRank that Google reports is from approx. 3 months ago.  They will never display your “actual” real-time page rank so take it with a grain of salt and focus on more important things like better content and more links.

4.  They don’t bother to setup and pursue a link building campaign

As most people know by now rank is driven by link quality and to a lesser degree link quantity.

If you want to increase your rank for any given term you need to be building links from websites related to your own.  Of course do not discount the easy links such as the Yahoo directory or some of the other major directories as they provide significant value for very little work but if you want to increase rank for your core keywords you will need to build links from other websites.  An example may be you have a website on camping.  It would serve you well to have links pointing to your website from other camping websites, or from websites selling camping gear, or from websites talking about camping locations or even from websites talking about wildlife.

It’s all about creating a themed website and assuring that the links pointing to your website are the same theme as yours.

Finding potential link partners is time consuming and often times cumbersome but if you approach website owners with a dually beneficial relationship, i.e. you provide them content for a link, it can work well for everyone involved.

Remember if you develop a relationship with the higher ranking websites in your market it can only benefit you by associating with them at any level.  It’s not always ideal to consider them the “enemy”.

5.  They don’t know their competition

Ok this is a BIG one and one you really need to consider as a website owner.  What’s important is to try and consider this BEFORE entering a market. I am a strong believer that anyone can compete online regardless of your companies size, it has more to do with how much your willing to personally dedicate to it.

I could rank well within a few days for the phrase “yellow polka dot tennis shoes” because it’s not a competitive term (a whopping 13,000 search results).  Of course this means nothing because no one searches for that term.

Here is a great rough gauge for SEO competition.  Do a Google search for your term and look at the number of results:

shoes – 305,000,000

tennis shoes – 3,405,000

Obviously tennis shoes is less competitive than “shoes” itself but if you want to gauge SEO competition do the same search using the “allintitle:” modifier to see how many people have optimized their title tags for the phrase:

allintitle: shoes – 23,700,000

allintitle: tennis shoes – 134,000

As you can see this differential spreads out exponentially showing that “tennis shoes” is drastically less competitive than “shoes”.

Just remember you are never competing with Google for top search results. You are always competing with the websites currently ranking for the terms you want to show up for.  If you can get more and better links AND you have done a better job at optimize your on-page content than the person currently at the number one spot in Google you will eventually surpass him.

As Emeril Lagasse Would Say ‘It’s Not Rocket Science.

ebooks Ebooks, reseller rights and affiliate marketing, a perfect combination to help you make money online, more than you might ever imagine.

You can use other people`s products to make money online or you can go the extra mile and create your own ebook.

Using Other People’s Ebooks To Earn

Don’t think that you need to write your own ebook to make money with ebooks. You can make a ton of money with your own ebook but don’t let that stop you from making money now.

Selling other people’s ebooks works great as long as you buy it, read it and then share what you learned with the huge number of people interested in learning.

It’s All About The Traffic

Whether you create your own ebook or use reseller rights to sell other people’s ebooks you still need the one all important thing to earn, and that would be targeted traffic. People that want what you are promoting.

You could use PPC (Pay Per Click) or as I prefer Organic Search Engine Traffic. Organic SE traffic is by far my favorite and doesn’t cost me a dime, just my time.

In any of the niches I make money with I can sell ebooks because people want to learn and they don’t want to spend time through trial and error.

I can just blog about my favorite ebooks in my niche, giving out just enough information to make people hungry for more and then wait for the search engines to send me the traffic I need each day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

That’s without writing an ebook of my own.

So, YES, you can make a good living online without your own ebook but take a minute and just think about what would happen if you did write your own ebook.

1. Create Your Own Ebooks

If you are knowledgeable on any given subject, like photography, video, fishing, gardening, travel… The list could go on indefinitely but my point is that if you have the knowledge in you the sky is the limit as far as earning go.

Take note that there is nothing on my list of topics that includes making money online. I leave that to the pros as that marketing is more than I want to take on.

I am better at the things that make me money more than the money makiing market. Things like my hobbies, fishing, guitar playing, gardening, travel… You get the idea, right?

Finding Topics To Write About

Sometimes great ebook topics come from necessity as it did for a good friend of mine. JP has a little dog with legs about 3 inches long. It’s tough on the little guy during the winter months and some times he just freezes up and can’t do his business.

That’s when JP decided to ‘Litterbox Train His Dog ‘.

The process didn’t take him long at all and now his dog does his business indoors on those aweful days and JP wrote down the process to help a few of his friends learn to litterbox train their dog.

It didn’t seem to matter what size the dog was the process worked.

The only thing is that JP never took the time to put his little guide on the internet so he never made a penny with his knowledge, how sad.

He was too busy trying to find a way to make money after a number of years with health problems that kept him from getting a job outside the home.

Now if you had an idea like that and it could help others wouldn’t you try to sell your ebook online and maybe even get others to sell it for you as well?

So, don’t sell yourself short by saying you don’t have an ebook in you.

I have talked with so many people that have knowledge others would gladly pay for but it’s still locked up in their brain like a secret.

The truth is they just don’t think they can. And as the saying goes, ‘If YOU think YOU can’t YOU’RE right’ .

Just Imagine…

… having your very own ebook making you money and what if others could sell it for you as well. You would be making money in your sleep.

2. Reseller Rights And Affiliate Marketing

Okay you’ve written your first ebook, created a web site to sell it from do you stop there. I don’t think so.

BTW: Don’t panic about creating a web site, just keep focused on what writing an ebook can do for you.

Don’t stop at selling your ebook all by yourself. Heck no, now you need to start thinking about affiliate marketing. Getting others to sell your ebook and earn even more.

Create A Blog And Start Blogging Today

Blogging For Dummies
Image by Somewhat Frank via Flickr

1. Consider Your Audience

Even if your blog is generally personal, still, it would be better to consider the minds of your readers. You have to think of something that would interest them.

After all, most of the reasons of people who write blogs are not at all confined to their own personal motives. Most of them would love to be “heard” (or read) and would love to be known, in some way or another, even for just a minute. Hence, it is very important to come with a write up that everybody can understand, not necessarily that these people can relate to it but they can understand it.

2. A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

To make your blogging worth the browsing effort of your readers, it would be extremely nice if you will put some pictures in it. It does not necessarily mean you have to place a picture of yourself. Any photographs will do as long as it does not pose danger or insult to anyone who will be reading your blog.

3. Make Constructive and Beneficial Blogs

Even if you are free to write anything you wan to say to the world, still, it would be better to create some write-ups that would be beneficial to your readers. After all, its information technology that you have there so better be inclined to provide information rather than sheer quirky entertainment.

4. Avoid Making Multifaceted and Complicated Blogs

In order to have an interesting blog, try not to use some highly technical and highfalutin words. After all, it is not a science discourse or a debate that you are making, so better stick to simple facts and short blogs.

Remember that most people who use the Internet usually do more scanning than scrutinizing each site word for word. Therefore, it would be better to come with blogs that will not bore your readers just because you have these lengthy articles.

5. Make Your Blog Interactive

As much as possible and if your capacity will allow it, make your blog interactive. Yu can do this by placing some video or audio clips in your blog.

You can even place an area for comments or for some feedbacks. In this way, you can get some impressions or reactions of other people. Who knows, you might even gain some friends just by making them feel at home in your blog site.

Indeed, blogs are not created just for the mere fun of it. It also has its own purpose in the world of the Internet. Therefore, for people who wish to harness their craft, as far as writing is concerned, blogs are the best way to do it.

As they say, blogging is the contemporary term of creative and commercial writing.

Micro Niche Finder Review

Micro volcano

I have been using Micro Niche Finder for over a year and have been impressed at how useful this niche and keyword finding software is at finding profitable niches and keywords.

This software does all that it is advertised to do and more. Here are a few ways to benefit from using this software.

1.) Find affiliate product niche keywords to build one to five page websites and articles around and promote affiliate products. Regular commissions can be earned on a recurring basis for doing this.

2.) Create keyword rich Adsense content pages that pay you residual ad revenue. Be sure to use the free Google Adwords keyword tool to check out the estimated cost to the advertiser for each keyword. There is no point in targeting low paying keywords if you want decent Adsense income. A high paying niche using high paying keywords will low to medium competition should do the trick.

3.) Create Niche Market Private Label Rights Packages and sell these for a quick profit.

4.) Create Squidoo Lenses and claim your share of the profits generated by the traffic.

5. Create eBay feeder pages and make money when new users register for eBay.

6. Promote affiliate products using keywords that are not often used. These will probably be long tail keywords. These golden keywords will be suitable for effective PPC advertising as well as to bring organic traffic to your website.

7. Find high value keywords to use in article marketing campaigns.

Check out the product at Micro Niche Finder

I quickly found some new keywords that more than justified the modest purchase price. The videos explaining how things work and what must be done are well done and easy to follow.

One thing that I believe will be extremely helpful moving forward is not mentioned in the promotional material. This would be to use the software to find niches and key word phrases that you can blog about with little competition.

This is what I am working with now. Once the software finds a low competition keyword that fits into theme and content of one of my blogs I simply do as I always do to write and publish the article.

Since the article is written around key words that people are actually searching for in good numbers and there is not much competition on Google for that key word I have a good chance to get a high ranking on Google. Google then will do a good job of serving ads that are closely related to those keywords. Of course, that will increase the CTR.

You should use the free Google Adwords tool to see how much advertisers are paying for keywords before deciding upon your blog topic. You might as well write about subjects whose keywords pay well rather than those that pay only pennies. Check out the product at Micro Niche Finder and the free Google Adwords tool can help you to sort all of that out and keep you working in profitable niches.

Check out the product at Micro Niche Finder. It’s a fantastic tool for keyword research and is easy to use and to understand.

How to Be a Freelance Writer

My online adventure began with freelance writing. Although that was more than 3 years ago, my freelance writing gigs helped me quit my full time job and launch my Internet marketing business as well. You should try freelance writing as a way to get cash flow.

Although there a really good freelance writing tips available, in this article let me give you and idea of what you can do:

  1. Ghost write for other people’s books and ebooks
  2. Write articles for website / blog owners
  3. Become a regular columnist for offline / online media in various topics
  4. Become a paid blogger using sponsored blogging like PayPerPost
  5. Become an editor / proofreader and help improve someone else’s work
  6. Become a web copywriter and charge for every web copy written

Being an editor requires more of a critical eye and amazing grasp of grammar and writing styles. Not everyone has this specific set of skills. Copywriting is another highly paid skill that requires creative thinking and therefore it not really in the reach of most people. If you can write a proper sentence in English, most other types of writing is good for you.

Ghost writing, paid blogging and content writing are what any ordinary joe should focus on.

Ghost writing can potentially add between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars into your bank account every month, but the flip side to this is that no one will ever know who you are or appreciate the work you’ve done. A big market of ebook publishers are looking for ghost writing services.

Writing for blogs or other online media is a good idea since you usually get credit for your work. If you write for blogs, chances are you get a link back to your own site. This gets you more exposure than you can dream of, especially if the blog gets a lot of traffic. For the sake of your freelance writing career, writing on blogs is actually much better than ghostwriting.

Another way of making money from freelance writing is paid to blog. The basic idea is you set-up your own blogs and start accepting writing offers in networks like Pay Per Post, Review Me or Sponsored Reviews. A lot of advertisers want to generate buzz about their products, and they have money to spend too. How much you can demand per article written depends a lot on the popularity and traffic of your blogs.

The great part of this is that technically you own the content you have written, which means you can always make money using your growing blog with Google Adsense or even affiliate offers.

Every entrepreneur would love the day to arrive when they don’t have to market their services any more because buyers come to them through their referral system. The main reason that most people do not have referral networks working for them, or develop referral systems is that they haven't yet learned how. People cannot read your mind, unless you specifically ask them to refer other people to what you offer; then you might not get a referral.

If someone is happy with your product or service and tells you so, then is the time to say thanks, if you happen to hear of anyone else who might benefit from what I have to offer, then please give them my contact details. A variation of this is I'm glad you are excited, you may know someone who would like to pay off their mortgage.

The above is idealistic, people are usually pleased with what they have received, but because we don’t act right away and make a point of asking them, or the opportunity will come and go.  Another way of developing a referral system is with the thank you letter where you thank a person for their business and then end saying that you enclose one or two of your business cards for them to pass on to people you think might need your services.

There are occasions however, when the above methods of developing a referral system do not work, especially in the financial sector. The fact of the matter is that people vary rarely discuss their finances with others, and so wouldn't be sure who might be interested in the services that you have to offer. There are a couple of approaches to creating a referral system that will work more effectively than those already mentioned.

Many successful business people have found that it helps to stay in touch with your clients by asking them if they would like to sign up for your monthly news letter. This should give them helpful financial tips and at the end you could ask if they know anyone else who might appreciate receiving your news letter.

You should network with other businesses and try and get people together referring business to each other. When people are introduced in this way, they are far more likely to make referrals to a client of theirs that needs the services that you have to offer. These things are proven methods of building a referral system, but it won’t happen overnight.

If you are going to build a successful referral system that stands the test of time, then you need to have patience.
