What is CTR? Well first CTR stands for Click Through Rate, which is the percentage of your webpage readers who click on your hyperlink or ad.

Example: If you see that 5 of your 100 visitors today clicked one of your hyperlinks or ads you have a 5% CTR. If you received 20 clicks from those 100 readers then you would have a respectable 20% Click Through Rate or CTR.

It’s hard to make money online when you don’t get visitors who click through on your money links. So let’s go over a few helpful tips that have helped me increase my own CTR.

1. Write Quality Keyword Focused Content

When it comes to creating content many online marketers today seem to go for quantity over quality. While this strategy may help to increase the number of visitors it won’t do much for your CTR.

Article spinners like The Best Spinner, Magic Article Rewriter and SpinChimp will help you create multiple articles from just one article but without quality content to start with you won’t see your CTR increase.

Most marketers today will use spinners to replace synonyms which isn’t going to make your articles any better than the initial article you started with.

Quality over quantity wins the clicks hands down and only takes a little longer to create content that will attract the clicks.

This happens by properly researching your target audience for your niche.

2. Make Your Site Appealing To Your Visitors

One’s content is not always the reason people leave a website without clicking your link. I have left many pages because I have to strain my eyes trying to read the content because of loud or conflicting colours, fonts that are fancy but hard to read and of course those over animated banners that are too distracting.

You need to always be thinking ‘How can I make my page better for my visitor?’

This means first choosing a website theme wisely, thinking about what your readers will be seeing while reading your pages.

I personally use XSitePro 2 when creating websites for myself and clients. I can say all kinds of great things about XSP2 but it’s better if you just follow the link above and see for yourself.

When I am blogging, which I do on a regular basis I use self hosted wordpress blogs. I don’t much care for free blogging sites as I have had a few very negative experiences with them.

There are lots, well thousands of wordpress blog themes you can find online that won’t cost your anything. Find one that fits your niche but be sure your readers will like it as well. It’s about ease of reading without distractions.

3. Make The Right Keyword Choices

So you have followed tips 1 & 2. Your paying attention to quality content instead of quantity. Your website theme is easy on the eyes. But, your CTR still hasn’t improved, what now?

A huge mistake new marketers make today is going for keyword phrases that are the top keyword in that niche. Without researching to find out your competition you may well be going for keywords that you just can’t compete with when first starting out.

The key to keyword success is finding the keywords that get low traffic as the top sites tend to go after that higher traffic keywords. Start this way and build over time, even use top keywords in your content, just don’t rely on them for instant income.

4. Make Your Articles Scan-able

Life some times seems to go too fast which makes people feel they have to rush at everything they do and part of that for people seeking information about a product is being able to scan articles quickly to find exactly what they want without wasting their valuable time.

This need for speed to read is easily solved with a few relevant images and heading to break the article into sections, making it a breeze to scan through.

Using this article as an example you can see I have written 5 tips and made 5 headings that stand out so my readers can look at the heading and skip to those that need reading.

5. Simply Asking For The Click

When I talk about asking for the click I am not referring to Adsense type ads as it’s against policy.

Don’t be shy about asking your reader to click through to your money site or pages with more information, as long as it’s not against any affiliate policy.

In conclusion

It doesn’t take much to lose a reader, maybe permanently so it’s important to take care when you are creating content for them. Content that is easy to read, no distractions, easy to scan using headings to break up the text for more white space and ask for the click.

Each step you take to improve your reader’s experience is a step closer to getting that all important click through rate increase well all seek.

I like it when I arrive at a blog post and see lots of comments. It tells me the blog owner is doing something rights which makes me want to read the article even more, along with the comments. It also makes me want to leave my 2 cents worth.

I even comment on other people’s comments if they’ve added, more good content to the post through their comment.

Not sure why I didn’t just think of asking my blog readers to leave a comment, but I didn’t and was left wondering why I didn’t get many comments. So don’t be shy about asking your readers to comment. It took a friend of my to tell. Sometimes I can be so clueless.

As a subscriber to ‘Nicole On The Net‘, one of Nicole Dean’s website I get regular emails telling me what’s up. The other day I saw she had a post about getting comments so I thought I would head over and see what I could learn.

About 15 or so years ago, seems so long ago, I was at a seminar by Brian Tracy where I learned a bit about asking questions that would get more than a yes or no response.

Instead of asking questions in your blog posts like, ‘Do you like fishing?’ Which will get a yes or no response try asking an open ended question like, ‘Why do you like fishing?’ It’s a lot tougher to say yes or no to a question like that. It changed the responses I was getting from my students and made for much better interaction.

Do Yourself A Favour And Respond To All Comments

I couldn’t imagine ignore comments on my blogs. It doesn’t make good business sense to have someone comment and then leave it at that. I can’t help responding back to them.

Now if it’s spam it gets deleted as spam so they never get to see the light of day, so when I talk about responding to all comments I am talking about those who actually leave a value added comment.

Now if you don’t care about getting comments and ignore them I suggest you just turn off comments all together.

I am loving working from home more and more each passing year however if I wasn’t making money with my sites I wouldn’t be such a happy marketer. I make my money through search engine marketing so if I am not found on the first page of Google’s search results I would be going hungry. It’s always better to work smarter over working harder, although the combination of both can help to make a great income.

You Need To Know

Knowing that most niches today have huge amounts of competition for top keywords will give you an edge as most marketers today still go after the top keywords, even though they will never rank for those words. For success in the niches that have huge amounts of competition one needs to find the keywords the big players don’t bother with and get your cut of the income for that niche.

Google has been loving blogs since they became popular as they tend to get updated much more frequently than static websites do. However Google still expects quality content that is relevant to the niche.

Search engine marketing through proper search engine optimization is most frustrating when you can’t get any money making keywords listed on the first couple of search results pages. If you can’t be found you will find it tough to make money.  That’s why I use keyword tool called Keyword Elite to save me days of researching keywords.

To Make Money One’s Web Site Must Be Found

The goal of search engine optimization is to have your content found in the search engines but if you’re listed on page 5 or 50 of the search engine results for your keyword choices, you lose. This is mostly due to the fact people tend to be lazy and will not usually go past page 2 or 3 of search results before modifying their search phrase and trying again.

It’s vital to be found on the first couple of pages of search results but better yet the first page and even better position #1 and that’s where Keyword Elite saves the day. It is one of my most favourite time saving and money making tools I have.

Learning about longtail keywords was really what changed my online business life. I went from focusing on keywords that are 2 or 3 words in length to using keyword phrases that are more like 5 to 7 words long. What a change that made in my traffic. I went from about 25 to 30 unique visitors up to over 100 unique visitors a day. Once I started ranking for some top keywords my traffic jumped all the way to 800 unique visitors each and every day.

I have been working from home since 2001 and using PLR content since about 2005. Since then I’ve been enjoying having the edge PLR content, aka private label rights articles, gives my web sites. PLR allowed me to go from just three web sites in 2005 to more than twenty by 2011.

It’s the PLR content which allows me to continue to increase the number of sites I have, without the private label rights content I would still be working just a few sites. PLR content such as articles, reports and ebooks are created by someone else then made available to other marketers like you and me. Usually this content is quite affordable, which means a lot of people who don’t want to do any work buy it. However, most don’t know how to use it properly so if you learn how to do it right you have a huge advantage.

How People Handle The PLR They Buy

1. Let The PLR Age. First you have the people that buy it and never get around to using it. What a waste for them but it’s good for you and I.
2. Don’t Modify, Just Use It Now!! Next you have those that buy PLR articles and use them as is. This could be fine if you are the first to publish the content online, however leave it too long and you will find hundreds of the same exact article in search engines.
3. Gitter Done. Then you have people, like myself, and hopefully you, who purchase quality PLR content, then modify it to make it somewhat unique and then publish it with relevant links to money making pages or even affiliate links.
