Actually it was a work from home opportunity that took divorce off the table so life has gotten a whole lot better.

I used to dream of having a work from home job where I was my own boss, finally. How depressing it was to wake up most days and have to face the reality of my life.

I was in my mid forties, 60 pounds over-weight and had already had one heart attack that wasn’t fixable. Oh yeah my marriage was going down hill fast. I didn’t even want to get out of bed most days.

One night after my wife went to bed I started looking online to see if there was a way to make money on the Internet.

It seemed that most work from home ideas would do best if I had my own website. So I was just about to put that work from home idea to bed but started wondering how hard it would be to create a website.

I taught myself a bit of HTML using free online tutorials and created a website by hand. I was so proud of myself. Little did I realize that learning how to make a website would change our lives, for the better.

Idea #1 – Website Design

Now my website wasn’t fancy and didn’t have any bells and whistles but it was a good looking website. I couldn’t help but to show all my friends. It still blows me away when I think about what happened next.

They all told me they liked it and I thought that was that, but it wasn’t. They shared my new site with friends and family and in just a few days I was contacted by a local business to have a website created.

At first I thought it was a joke but it wasn’t and I did my first work from home job as a website creator guy. I made a whole lot more money than my day job paid and I had a lot of fun.

I had no over-head so that guy got a great deal and I was certainly happy with the money I made.

Of course they showed their new website to everyone they knew. Almost over night I was overwhelmed with phone calls from other small businesses.

Life just turned in our favour. Shortly after I quit my low paying day job and work from home to this very day.

Important Note: I found the key to my success was working locally because people shared with other people locally and my name got around quickly.

Today I use XSite Pro to create websites but still keep Dreamweaver to handle existing websites. I also use Photoshop but today I use Xara Extreme for my graphics.

Idea #2 – Typing – Data Entry – Transcription – Translation

Of course this work from home idea isn’t for everyone. I type quick enough for my business, which does take a lot of typing, but I lack speed and accuracy needed for most work from home typing jobs.

However if you have good typing skills meaning you’re fast and make few mistakes you are capable of making great money working from your home, even part time.

Idea #3 – Selling on Ebay As A Work From Home Job

This particular work from home idea I read about online and tried it some time ago. It was awesome and was a lot of fun. The nervousness that was building up in me disappeared after I made my first sale and nothing went wrong.

The article read something like: “Go through your house, top to bottom, including the attic if you have one. Don’t forget to check the basement and the garage or shed.

You’ll looking for things you don’t want to keep around. Focus on things that are in good condition so you don’t get refund requests.

Now go sell them on Ebay.”

We had quite a little pile of things we could sell, so I learned how to sell products on Ebay and listed my first item. Then we waited until the auction ended a few days later. That’s when my nerves settled down. The item sold, we shipped it and no refund request. So cool.

We kept putting things up and they kept selling. Selling on Ebay was a lot of fun, we made a pile of money too. A work from home job selling on Ebay is a bit addictive but something that worth doing in your sparetime to start.

I made sure I packaged everything I sold so that they wouldn’t break during shipment and we had zero refund requests.

After it was all gone it was kind of a let down as it had been so much fun. So we went to a few yard sales and bought some things for almost nothing and sold those one Ebay as well.

That was a lot of fun and perhaps something you would like. I wish the best and have fun with it.

If you don’t know what to charge just look through Ebay and see what others are charging for similar items. That’s what we did.

Idea #4 – Hobbies, Blogging And Affiliate Marketing

This work from home job isn’t really a job to me at all it’s fun because it’s about my hobbies and interests. I hardly ever get writers block when it comes to my hobbies.

There are hobbies that don’t have a lot of interest so I don’t bother with them but hobbies I love like fly fishing, home gardening, biking, guitar playing and well the list could go on and on.

The only rule I have when it comes to hobbies and blogging is they have to be hobbies I actually spend money one and trust me when I say I spend money on my hobbies as do so many others.

Those are the hobbies that make for a great and potentially lucrative work from home business.

This next idea goes right along with hobbies and blogging.

Idea #5 – Work From Home Product Reviews

I promote products I can earn commission with, or affiliate programs related to my hobbies and interests. If you have hobbies you know how great it is to learn new things about your hobby. I use that to make money online.

Take fishing for example. It’s a hobby with millions upon millions of people who enjoy the hobby/sport. Well I’m a bit of a fishing nut so I share what I do when I go fishing, so this work from home job even goes on the road and water with me.

I take pictures, lots of them and videos and then I write fishing related articles that point my readers toward my affiliate links. And fishing is just one of my hobbies.

In conclusion

Each of these work from home ideas can be done in just a few hours a week. I would advise setting aside a specific amount of time to work your work from home idea and then stick to that schedule for best results. I find a routine makes me more efficient.

At the beginning of my work from home job my son and wife would just walking and start talking. Something that should take an hour would take two hours. So we had to set rules for when I was working.

It took a few reminders but now I get things done much faster and then I’m out of the office.

I have been writing content for my niche sites for almost an entire decade now. As a result today I can write niche related articles for those early sites using some of the top money making keywords in those niches and get listed on the first search results page in Google and other major search engines. I seldom go past the second page of results either. That means those on page three and deeper are lucky to get any traffic.

So, if you’re listing is on page 3 or even further down it’s most likely you’re not going to make any money therefore you need to learn how to hit the first page of Google results and that’s going to require a little research on your part.

Research Your Niche For The Longtail Keywords That Will Make Money Now

The days of ranking quickly for the top paying keywords in any niche are slim to none unless you are already established in your niche. Otherwise the competition is just too strong which means to succeed you need to find keywords the top competitors ignore due to the small amount of traffic they provide.

Once I started learning I realized I could do a whole lot better using less popular keyword.

I said that Google does not at all like duplicate content. So it’s no surprise that Google will punish those using too much duplicate content. It’s extremely important to write and spin unique articles, as close to 100% as possible.

I am sure you’ve heard about Google’s February 2011 update, named Farmer, by now. There’s certainly been enough chatter about lost rankings and traffic.

Don’t create link farms and don’t link to link farms.

2. Keep The Content You Create Unique And Relevant To The Rest of Your Content

Writing a lot of content and checking to see that it’s unique takes way too much time so I have to find a way to check it faster and I did.

After searching Google for some useful info on unique content I learned about CopyScape.com and my problem was solved, just like that.

Example: Today, while writing this article I used Copyscape to check how unique it was and found two problems. There was duplicate content in a couple of phrases. As it turns out both occurrence were from my own content. It’s easy to get in the habit of using similar and even exact phrases over and over but Copyscape helped me find it.

So for just 5 pennies I was able to pinpoint any duplicate content issues and avoided a problem before it ever arose to haunt me.

3. Keep Your Articles Focused On Your Niche

• Find a niche topic you like, maybe even love. I work most of my hobbies.

• Instead of picking a topic too broad such as fishing you would go for a niche or sub-niche about ‘using top water lures for bass fishing’
• Research Google to make sure you have a market that people spend money in. Nothing worse than spending a lot of time marketing to a market with no money.

Duplicate Content is Bad, K

Well Google made their rounds near the end of February and started slapping Content Farms with less than unique content, by dropping their pagerank. Hopefully it’s a wake up call to all who think they will do well with duplicate content. Google’s slap is basically saying ‘not through us they won’t’.

I can say that it’s most annoying reading a webpage and then following a link for more info and finding the same article just rewritten a little. It’s frustrated and it’s happening more and more all the time, so personally I’m glad Google is out there slapping their lazy asses.

Today we have a number of software tools for rewriting content and yet the problem of duplicate content is actually on the rise. Why? Because most marketers don’t see the article spinners as a method to create 100% unique content but more of a way to create content faster, without really thinking about the duplicate content issue we face.

Use Content Spinners Wisely

I haven’t always focused on 100% unique content, especially when I was rewriting content manually. The more sites I started the harder it became to continually create unique content from scratch. That’s when I started looking at article spinners and eventually chose The Best Spinner to help with my 20 plus blogs. My goal these days is to aim for no less than 90% unique content and try to get as close to 100% as I can.

How To Create Quality Unique Content

1. Swap out synonyms

When I first started rewriting PLR content I would get my trusty thesaurus out and start replacing words in my articles. Later I thought I could get it done faster using my word processor, which worked great. I gave it a try a few times and saw that the results were less than favourable. Sadly too many would be marketers today use the auto replace synonyms and then start publishing those poor quality articles everywhere they can.

2. Rewrite Individual Sentence

A quick and fairly easy way to create unique content is to just rewrite each and every sentence. That’s going to create a 100% unique article. Do this again and you now have three unique sentences instead of one or two. Now you have the potential for some unique content.

3. Move Paragraphs Around

Write your articles in such a way that you can rearrange your paragraphs making it even more unique.

So now you have an article that has become three completely unique articles and then you can pick and choose sentences and paragraphs from those articles to create many more unique articles.

Avoid The Google Slap With Unique Content

In conclusion I just want say it again. To avoid a Google slap for duplicate content slow down and focus on how you are rewriting. This will help you generate much more unique content and your bank account will thank you.
