What Makes a Good Article?

Posted October 15, 2008 , By webmann

We all know the raw power and efficiency of online marketing through article publication.  I’d even say that article marketing is the most powerful and cost-effective internet advertising method that has been conceptualized since the creation of the digital realm.

To put it simply, if you’re running an internet enterprise, you have to exploit marketing with articles.

Despite this maxim, one of the most asked questions I get is this: how can I craft a good article?

It seems that though most online entrepreneurs realize that they have to pursue article marketing, not everyone is possessed of the knowledge on how to craft a web-worthy piece of informative content.

Therefore, I have prepared some easy to follow guidelines on how you can craft the perfect good article for internet marketing purposes.

  1. Know the subject you want to discuss with your article.
  2. Don’t settle for a general subject.  Break it down to something that people will be interested in.  For example, don’t settle for the broad topic of “dogs.”  Try to determine a sub-topic that will win the imagination of the prospects you will be targeting.  As is often the case, this sub-topic pertains to a specific demand, like “dog training” for dog owners who are experiencing difficulty when it comes to living with their disobedient canine companions, or “dog grooming” for clealiness compulsive dog owners who can’t live with the smell of their dirty canine pups.  You have to discover a sub-topic that will click.  This is vital.  A lot of articles fail because they don’t serve a more tangible topic.
  3. Because the sub-topic should serve a need, your article should share a remedy.  However, depending on the usage of your article, the remedy you will share will vary.  To illustrate, if the purpose of the article is to market a product, then practice restraint on the solution you will share.  Your goal, in such a case, is to give the impression that you know what you’re talking about, and entice your readers to check out what you have to offer.  Do not forget this throughout the writing process.
  4. Craft an attention seeking title that is immediately understandable but exciting.  People will visit your article if they will be hooked by its title.  Otherwise, no one will view what you have prepared.
  5. Remember that every article has three fundamental parts: the opening, the body, and the ending.  The introduction will introduce what your article is all about.  You can inform them of a surprising fact, an alarming statistic, or a humorous anecdote to jolt your audience into knowing that yes, you are the real deal.  The body will explore the message you want to share, of course.  And the conclusion will review the problem, the given solution, as well as deliver some calls to action (i.e. click my link) if necessary.
  6. What is the right length for articles of this nature? It’s safe to say that 300 to 750 words would be perfect!

These are just some basic tips for article writing.  It is not difficult to write a good article all it takes is some planning and some thought.  With time you will find it gets a lot easier.  For more advice on writing a good article and other ways you can increase your website traffic take a look at Marketeermum.
