Articles Are The Easy Way To Higher Ranking

- Image via Wikipedia
Article marketing is probably one of the easier ways to get ranking for your web sites in the major search engines. More importantly, it’s totally above board when done right and you dont have to worry about getting blacklisted.
Unfortunately article marketing is often avoided because of the additional perceived “work” involved. Get over it and start writing about what you know. The time you spend now will pay off for years to come, if you focus while writing.
Focus: Stay on Topic
My first rule in article marketing is to stick to topics I am familiar with. It just makes it so mucgh easier.
Smart people will stick to things they know when starting their first sites, it just makes succeeding so much easier, but not every one does that, do they.
Of course once you get your feet wet in marketing you can learn what you need to know for new markets.
Just start reading up on the niche you’re interested in and in no time you will be writing useful and helpful articles.
In addition to the above, make sure you write in a simple to understand style. Fancy words are wasted on most people and just turns them away, especially if they make them feel stupid.
Stay Away From Duplicate Content
A second rule, and very important, is to make sure you can rewrite your article easily so you can publish them in more than one place with duplicate content. Why??
Well the major search engines have the ability to spot duplicate content and quite willing to penalize you for it. I have been hit more than once because I slacked off on being unique.
There are software tools that can help you rewrite your article, BUT do not let them automatically do it for you or you just might end up with an article that reads like a four year old wrote.
One of the best tools I have ever used for rewriting exists at My Article Network. You can easily rewrite articles up to 1000%++ (each sentence has 10 alternates + other stuff) and distribute them on up to 10,000 blogs.
Limit Your Backlinks And Make Them Relevant
A third rule is to limit the back links. Most article directories limit you anyway but outside of that you can post on blogs and elsewhere with as many links as you want. Use common sense here again, the search engines are much smarter than that now.
If one link is good, 100 is not better. In general, dont use more than 1 link per 200 words or so. In addition, you want to be consistent with your keyword links to get benefit. Do not try to master 20 keywords at once by linking different ones each time. You need some repetition to get any ranking boost at all.Concentrate only on a few keywords in the beginning and move your rank up on those.Once you achieve ranking on page 1 or 2 on Google, then you can move on to other words to broaden the base.
A last rule to remember is that repetition not only keeps it going, it makes it work. For the first month or 2, you really need to post a new article for distribution every 2-3 days. Even after you get higher ranking, you still need to pump in some linked articles at least once a week to keep it fresh. The search engines look at the date of the posts that have the link – over time they decay the value of those links if they see nothing new coming in. Get accounts at all the major article networks like Ezine – they are very highly ranked in Google and others, so make sure you distribute to them as well.
Done properly, article marketing can be a central hub to other stuff you do to boost your overall site ranking and visibility.

What are your opinion on article writing versus writing a guest post?
Great question Stefan.
I have thought about this a few time and think I like the idea of article writing if I am publishing to EzineArticles or a few of the other top article directories.
Publishing articles on EA helps me get links into the first page of google search engines and that’s important to me.
I also like it when others take my articles and publish them on their sites, as long as they keep my resource box. I have found a few that like to just steal my articles.
But…
I also like the idea of guest posting if I can get on a site that has good traffic as it’s a great way to get focused traffic back to my sites.
So I guess I like them both because they both, when done correctly, bring me the traffic that makes me money.
I don’t do enough of either right now.
Thank you for your answer. I asked because I’m of the opinion that guest blogging is much better than writing articles. I guess the advantage of writing articles is that your content most certainly will always be there when blogs shuts down and you don’t have to deliver as good content.
Thanks for the tip on “My Article Network”, I think I will give their service a try.
