Not every one has a product to sell online. I am one of those online marketers who has no products of their own. This doesn’t mean I don’t have products to promote and sell though.

I use affiliate products, which are products owned by others who are willing to let me sell their products for then for a percentage of the sale or a commission. This give so many of us the option to earn money with other people’s products.

Promote and Sell Other People’s Products

Using affiliate marketing to sell other people’s products you can be unstoppable in just about any niche you’re knowledgeable in. If you were to start promoting and selling a new product every day, say in the home gardening niche and you would never sell all the available affiliate products in just that one niche.

One of my favourite niches is the home gardening niche as it’s a great way to save money and if you choose to blog about it you have a way to make money blogging. Niches or markets like home gardening are so big they are broken into sub niches so there are plenty of affiliate programs, products and services so that you’ll never run out of things to talk about and promote.

Affiliate Products Which Are Digital

I get almost all my digital products, which are ebooks, software and graphics, from the Clickbank marketplace. I’ve found ebooks to be great because I can read them right from my laptop, iPad or Kindle.

You will find other affiliate programs for digital products other than just at Clickbank. You might want to look at PayDotCom.com and eJunkie.com too.

You need to learn all you can about affiliate marketing and Clickbank is the place to look. It was there that I found the Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner and my online business life started making money. Rosalind Gardner is the go to person for all things affiliate marketing.

Non Digital Affiliate Products

Of course all products are not digital so I went looking for other affiliate networks that have physical products I can promote.

A few of the affiliate networks I have joined for my garden niche as well as my other niches:

Commission Junction, LinkShare Affiliate and ShareASale Network

Even though I have tried a lot of affiliate networks they are not all a like so I have dropped a lot of them. Those I listed above are a few I have been making money with and use them in multiple niches like gardening and acoustic guitar.

So what ever your niche is you are likely to be able to find an affiliate program. If you can’t find an affiliate program for your niche I would step back and rethink the niche you’ve chosen.

When I look for articles on article directories I can’t believe how poorly they are written today, mostly due to poor spinning actually. If they aren’t written or formatted for my readers I look elsewhere. Some of the things I look for in an article I will post on my blog are:

1. Make paragraphs and sentences short. Try using just 2 maybe 3 sentences per paragraph. A paragraph that never ends is hard to read and many just leave the article completely. Keep it short, just write more paragraphs if need be.
2. Use Bullets and Numbers. Immediately I can see points stand out in an article if bullets and numbers are used. This means I can scan an article for what I am looking for.
3. Don’t talk over my head. No all people are as educated as you are so dumb it down a bit, just for me.
4. Check Spelling And Grammar. An article looks very unprofessional when it’s full of typos and grammar errors. It also makes the blogger or author appear like they don’t really care if they can’t take the time to check spelling and grammar.
5. Create a short yet catchy title.  I reject a lot of articles today because, for some reason, authors feel the need to use a paragraph for their title with no clear keyword focus. Take the time to come up with the perfect title as it’s vital.

There are many things you can do for your blog, to make it look great but when it comes right down to it it’s the words that count the most, in the end. I don’t care how great your site looks if the content is crap.

I use article networks to find content. It used to be pretty easy before article spinners became available because authors are either to busy to care what the results are or they haven’t learned how to use a spinner correctly. Anyways the results make it tough to find a quality article today.

Personally I use The Best Spinner for all my article spinning and end up with quality content because I know it works better than over spun crap, so it’s worth my time to create good articles. So please do a better job as I need lots of content and your site could get better ranking.

I have found a place where I get articles written for just a couple of bucks. I usually get good quality because I get to specify my expectations for my article. Plus I can reject articles and the author doesn’t get paid, so they tend to work a little harder to get accepted and paid.

I not only have articles written for my niches I also write a few articles as well. I like writing articles that match my hobbies and it makes a little extra money I use to pay for articles I want.

We tried to stay up until midnight for New Years Eve but that didn’t happen so Merry Christmas instead.

Retirement can sneak up on you pretty quick and one can easily find they are not prepared for what’s to come. The thing is retirement doesn’t mean you’re dead and the need for money doesn’t stop.

Where’s The Money For Retirement

It’s a bit embarrassing but for the sake of those reading this article I will admit I sucked at finances for many years. This has left us with no nest egg to enjoy retirement which means we either keep working, stay at home all the time or we could work from home as bloggers.

A Work At Home Job After Retirement

Retirement doesn’t have to mean the end of life as you know it. If you are willing to learn about work at home jobs you can do at any age. I started a work from home business that is based around my hobbies and make money doing it.

I don’t even have to be at home to run my work at home business. We love to travel so when we are on the road I share our travels though our travel blog. I even write off some of our travels and part of our home for our business.

It works out great as I like to talk about the things I enjoy, like my hobbies. My travel blog is just one of many blogs we have today. I like fly fishing, gardening, playing acoustic guitar and so many other things. There is always something new to talk about. I just do it with my laptop.

Blogging For Profit And Article Marketing

Blogging for profit works great because blogs are so accepted by search engines where we get all our traffic which our blogs convert into paying customers.

I will admit I struggle with this at the beginning due to lack of knowledge but just because we are retiring doesn’t mean we are brain dead, so I learned what I needed to know to make money blogging for profit.

Today I have over a dozen blogs, one for just about every hobby I have. My home gardening and fishing blogs make us the most income so far but the other blogs are gaining search engine traffic and growing as well.

The hardest part about blogging for profit, even after retirement, is picking the right niche to start blogging in. You want to pick a niche that you can talk about for a long time so you will be able to write blog posts regularly without getting writer’s block. I don’t have that problem, just ask Jenny.

Baby Boomer’s Can Still Learn, Right?

I am not only a baby boomer but I know many other baby boomers and have even taught a few how to work from home to make money online. So we know baby boomers don’t have to go brain dead after retirement and can even make money online.

I have been reciprocal linking since 2001 and see it as a way for you to scratch my back while I scratch your back.

It was a practice I continued until about 2010 and change to one way links only as most of the reciprocal links were not really relevant to my niche and felt it had a negative effect on my rankings.

I still get emails daily asking to swap links but I don’t get very many that are actually relevant to my niche so I usually decline and explain that I only do reciprocal linking today if both links are relevant.

What it really comes down to for me is that I don’t want my readers clicking a link that takes them to a page that has nothing to do with my niche or content. Make the link relevant and I see it completely different.

How To Have Reciprocal Linking Success

1. Link & Link Text Must Be Relevance. If my site is about home and garden I am not likely to want links from poker sites or even Nascar sites. My understanding of Google is that they look for relevancy in linking. So personally I go for what makes Google give me more authority and ranking and for me it’s relevant linking, even if it’s reciprocal.

2. Don’t Publish Broken Links. Check and then double check your links to be sure they actually work. I have seen this happen more times than I care to remember just because someone was in a rush. Google doesn’t give credit to those that almost get it right.

3. Never Spam Links. Google staff are not stupid and know the difference between relevant links and spam links. If it looks like spam it usually is and Google’s not going to give ranking or give you credit for spam links. Again Google prefers relevant linking.

4. Don’t Bother Starting Any Link Farms. Many bloggers today accept anything on their site and have topics that cover all things and end up creating a link farm that Google and other search engines aren’t going to like. They are not good for business really so I won’t link to them.

5. Give Your Links Value. I have found that I get a whole lot more positive attention from search engines when I include a reciprocal link in an article rather than just on my blogroll. It make it look more natural and if it’s on the right page it will also be relevant.

So even though I had stopped reciprocal linking for a couple of years I have started accepting them once again, but only when they are relevant to my niche.

Today we have so many ways to make money with a work from home computer and Internet access. I’ve said hundreds of times but the chance to work from my home and make money from the Internet is almost too good to be true, however it is a reality.

Before we continue I feel the need to point out that it’s vital to invest your time and learn how to work from home to make money before stumbling into online marketing. Personally I have found I do so much better in markets, well niches in markets that I have some know-how in. This way I won’t likely get writers block.

Know-how is great but I know a lot of things that still wouldn’t keep me interests year after year so I prefer to actually write about things I love to do like playing my guitar or going fishing with friends.

However, if it’s just about making money then love doesn’t have to be there, especially if you are good with the computer keyboard like my friend Danni is.

Like I said I make far too many mistakes and really rely on my spell checker and even my grammar checker to be sure I have found most if not all my mistakes but that takes time and time is money so I don’t do so well as a skilled typist. So…

I Work At Affiliate Marketing

I put what knowledge I have together with other people’s products and services to create sites I can make money through affiliate marketing. To keep focused I stick to the areas or niches that revolve around my existing interest which are mostly hobbies.

Two places I make most of my earning is 1) Amazon.com, and 2) Clickbank.com.

I use Amazon categories to find products but I also use them to find niches I know about but kind of forgot about. Yeah it happens when you hit my age, you some times forget things you like.

And when it comes to digital products Clickbank has 10s of thousands of them in the form of ebooks or electronic books, graphics and software products I can promote and make money through my sites.

Because I am not exactly a passionate writer I prefer matching affiliate marketing with my interests as I can write about stuff I really like a lot, without quickly hitting a wall called writer’s block.

Already Have A Business And Want Traffic

When the Internet became available in Moncton I already had a work from home business as a web design and computer instructor. I found the Internet a great way to get even more local traffic.

Don’t let what I do lead you to believe you need to be a web designer to make money online, not at all. You don’t even have to hire someone like me to build you a website because today blogging is huge and you don’t need web design skills do start.

I do suggest you have a domain for blogging purposes and a hosting account to host your domain. For these purposes I use two companies which I have been using happily for years now. They are:

1. GoDaddy.com to buy all my domains
2. HostGator.com all the way for my hosting requirements.

There are many opportunities for making money online while working from home but like I said at the beginning it should start with learning how to succeed first. You will find lots of quality ebooks at Clickbank marketplace.

The time I’m NOT spending on keyword research means I have time to work my keywords. MNF has become one of my favourite research tools today.

Keyword Research Is Key To Success

Having a work from home job like I have gives me so much freedom so I can learn more ways to make money online and I like to share those things with my readers, like you. Knowing I’ve helped people to work from their home to make money strokes my ego like you wouldn’t believe.

I still have very vivid images of my early days and poorly I did before learning what I needed to know to make a living from home. What have I learned that’s helped me the most? Well that would have to be investing in my future.

Micro Niche Finder Is A Great Investment

I use both Micro Niche Finder and Keyword Elite for my keyword research. They both do a few things that are different but for my work from business I feel I need both.

I use the Micro Niche Finder for keyword research to find keywords for very specific targets we call micro niches. When I am going to build a site based on one product I need the keywords that will make me money.

However when I am going to start a site like my fly fishing blog I want lots of money making keywords that don’t have so much competition that I can’t compete and for me Keyword Elite fits the bill perfectly.

My Opinion of Micro Niche Finder Is Biased

I really can’t help but to be a little biased toward Micro Niche Finder as it’s change how I look at micro niches. Now I make money with micro niches and have found Micro Niche Finder has made it easier and faster.

It didn’t take me long getting started. I had immediate access to training videos that explain all aspects of the Micro Niche Finder which cut the learning curve considerably. I just followed along with the videos and it all became clear.

Conducting A Micro Niche Finder Search

After opening Micro Niche Finder I I typed in my first phrase to see how the system works, still following the videos of course.

I also work in English so I set the language to English and because my audience is by far from the good ole US of A so I set the countries to US. Then all I had to do was click search and MNF was off getting related keywords for me.

I was advised that this could take a few minutes so once I started the search I headed to the kitchen for a sandwich and some more coffee. So loving being able to work from home.

My goal was to find some quality longtail phrases of between 4 to 7 words for a product I was interested in starting a site for. I don’t usually go with longer keywords as they tend NOT to be phrase used by people ready to spend.

Once I returned with my snack and coffee my keywords were waiting for the next step, according to the videos. And I was ready for the next steps.

SOC – The Strength of Competition Tool

Without really knowing the competition levels for the niche markets or micro niches how will you know if you can really make any money. Competition today can be fierce to say the least so you better know what you’re doing.

Use SOC to find the viability of the micro niche phrases.

How To Use SOC

The Strength of Competition option will allow you to check any or all the phrases you’re interested in. You can specify as single phrase by clicking the SOC link in the row your keyword is in from the SOC column.

As you scan through your keywords you can just click the check boxes on the left of the keyword for those you want to check. If you just wanted to select all you can click the link at the top of the window that says, “Check All”. You can of course deselect individual keywords or all of them as well.

If you are checking a lot of keywords this is going to take time. I just get started and then go about doing other things to help my business earn and grow.

Micro Niche Finder put each keyword into one of three categories, listed below.

1. Strong Competition – show as red ‘danger’ meaning it could be tough to gain on your competition.
2. Moderate Competition – shows as yellow ‘caution’ a moderately easy market to rank in Google.
3. Light Competition – show as green ‘go’ should be relatively easy to rank for this term in Google.

Micro Niche Finder has cut my research time down significantly and that’s exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Mr. James Jones.

Hide Results I Don’t Want To See

All the things you are going to be checking can get confusing if you can’t hide the results you don’t want to see. In MNF all you need to do is to use the big red X at the top of the screen to choose to hide checked or unchecked items, the choice is yours.

I usually hide unwanted results after each step I take in the Micro Niche Finder. BTW they are not gone, just hidden from view and become visible again when you want them.

I Need To Know Phrase Counts

Once I find the strength of competition using SOC, I need to know phrase counts. For this I just click the Phrase Count link top left. Now I can narrow down my list of keywords even more.

If I am investing my time to find just the right keywords for my micro niches I certainly want keywords that gain the traffic I require for success.

The truth of the matter is I chose this niche because I know how competitive it really is and thought it was the ideal test of Micro Niche Finder. I was certainly impressed with what I found and actually started a new site based on my results.

I’ll Kick Your Butt

First you should know I started online marketing in 2001 and nearly went broke and came very close to just giving up all together. Then I decided to try learning how to make money online and my business took off.

Now let’s move forward to 2010.

One cold snowy evening Bob and I were playing guitar and have a few too many beers. At one point Bob asked how my web business was doing.

After I told him how things were going he said he and his wife were thinking of starting a blog about there dogs.

I laughed and said that sounded cool and I that I had been thinking about having a blog for our dog as well. The thing was I didn’t know much about dogs, I just loved having our dogs.

Bob on the other hand was knowledgeable about dogs and thought he would have no problems. I was of course telling him about my experiences before I invested time learning how to make a blog earn.

That’s when Bob’s competitive side came appeared. You see Bob is a whole lot smarter than me so he challenged me to a contest. 

Bob was so knowledgeable about dogs he thought he could do better than I could. That fact I’ve been marketing for nearly a decade I took him up on his bet. To make it even better I told him I could even beat him without using my own content.

Now a case of 24 beer, of our choosing, along with a new set of strings was on the line. Game On!!

I had the definite edge plus I have already read How To Be a Super Affiliate by Rosalind Gardner and how to SEO a blog.

Long story short I kicked Bob’s behind big time and enjoy the beer and my guitar never sounded better after getting a new set of strings.

The contest really wasn’t fair on my part so I shared the beer over another guitar jam and then helped him get his doggy blog in order. He also bought a copy of Rosalind’s ebook though my site so I also made some money from Bob.

Home Gardening Hobbies

We decided to start gardening to save money on produce from the grocery store and to even eat healthier as we would be organic gardeners, all we had to do was learn how.

Again it was back to Clickbank to checkout the marketplace for ebooks about gardening, specifically vegetable gardening. Now it’s one of my top websites and makes me the most money and has the highest pagerank.

I was a new work from home marketer with the goal to make my living from the Internet. I have a very limited budget and couldn’t afford much for hosting.

Even though I couldn’t afford much I still expected my site to remain live on the net, even when I wasn’t looking. And to an IMer it can be costly to have your website down. Even for a short time.

I went through a lot of hosting services and lived a rather stressful life for those first few years online. Then back in early 2006 I landed on HostGator.com’s website and quickly my stress level dropped back to normal.

So Happy With HostGator Tech Support

I don’t have a lot to say in this section other than HostGator technical support team has never let me down, ever. Since early 2006 I have been hosting not only my own domains but I host most of my web design client sites there as well, from my reseller account.

Before HostGator became my hosting service I had to deal with down times and bandwidth issues. I could handle that when it was my own accounts but when my clients contacted me saying their sites were down, well it really increased my stress level and blood pressure.

Not since 2006 though, when I became a HostGator client with a reseller account.

HostGator Tech Support Answers All My Questions

I don’t send a lot of questions to HostGator tech support these days but I was a big nuisance back when I started. I had so many back experiences with other services that I needed to know my every concern was being met.

Every question I submitted was answered in record time. I am talking just a couple of hours compared to waiting a day or two for a response.

My Personal Real Life Support Example

Any of the issues I’ve had in the past were solved quickly but the most recent issue I had to go to HostGator with was a real stressor for me.

As you can see in the image on the left I am doing my happy dance because they were there when I needed them most.

It Was December 13, 2011

At the time of this writing it’s only been a couple of days and is still very fresh in my mind.

My day started like every other business day. I work at home so the commute to my office was about 30 seconds. Sure beats going outside.

Anyways I was working my sites but when I came to the site you’re looking at right now something wasn’t right. I couldn’t see any of my blog posts. Just a message saying NOT FOUND.

I immediately broke into a cold sweat and my heart started racing. This is one of my top producing sites. I have more than 1200 posts that go back years. I tried to remain calm and send a support ticket to HostGator looking for help.

I couldn’t even work on my other projects. I just paced back and forth. I am sure in the next two hours I drank at least 4 coffees, so I was really buzzing.

Periodically I would refresh my screen hoping to see content but nothing. I checked my email every 5 minutes and then after a couple of hours, which seemed a whole lot longer I had a response.

The problem was my Wordpress database. It had crashed and was corrupted. Fortunately they had a backup of my blog and had already fixed the problem. My site was back up and running. My heart left my throat, my stomach settled and my blood pressure returned to normal.

I didn’t take long getting in there and sending off a glowing feedback report on their service.

From Where I Sit HostGator.com Is All Pros

When I am reviewing a product or service I like to give pros and cons so my reader get it’s all but I just have nothing negative that comes to mind with HostGator. In the six years I’ve been with them I have not had an issue that wasn’t create by me yet they still fixed them.

At the moment I have 12 sites on the go, ten are built around my hobbies while the other two are make money sites where I share what I’ve learned over the years of online marketing.

I started with an idea to work from home and make a full time living. It wasn’t as easy as it played out in my head but eventually I learned what I needed in order to make money with affiliate marketing.

It All Began With Some Niche Research

Looking back it would have probably saved me a lot of frustrating moments, so do start with niche research, as it’s very sound advice. Can you tell that I didn’t really start with niche research?

It took a while but I came to understand research was the best route to go as guessing wasn’t making me anything more than frustrated.

Blogging About Things You Really Enjoy

After spinning my wheels for some time I gave researching niches that matched a few of my hobbies a try.

I found that fly fishing was an area I could work for years so I started my first fly fishing blog. Later I added a second blog to the site for fly tying.

It was so much easier writing content for a niche I lived in for half the year, fishing.

I created articles for both blogs for almost 3 months and had a couple of hundred unique readers per day so I monetized my blogs with a few affiliate products and started making some money.

Credibility Is Really Important Today

I don’t often purchase from a site I have just found, unless of course I have been given the site address as a strong reference from someone I trust. It usually takes me a few visits before I feel I can trust.

However for many sites I have no problem deciding about whether to trust them or not. I just leave because a few red flags scared me off immediately. I do have a few expectations when I am on a site, well when it comes to business anyways.
