Do What You Love And The Money Will Follow
Do what you love and the money will follow. Do you believe that?
People don’t seem to follow their dreams. They just don’t believe they can make money that way.
If I were to put all the people I know in a room and ask those doing what they love for a living to raise a hand you would have to look pretty hard to find a raised hand. I am not saying they don’t like their jobs or that they don’t make great money. Most have jobs they put up with just so they can pay the bills. I’ve even had a couple email me to tell me just how much they hate their job.
One of my fishing buddies is always saying: “Have I told you today how much I hate my job?” Then we kinda laugh, but we both know he is more than serious. Another friend emails me from time to time with a screen full of the words, “I hate my job”.
Wouldn’t it be great to make money doing the things you love to do?
Do What You love and The Money Will Follow – by Dr. Marsh Sinetar (1987)
That book came out way back in 1987 and opened a lot of eyes to the possibility. I was convinced and in the same year I started my computer consulting business, which at that time was doing something I loved. Prior to that I spent my life going from job to job just making a living.
I continued teaching computer proficiency for the next 14 years before starting my own online business. My first online money making business was web design and hosting.
What I really wanted was a job I loved that earned money online without trading hours for dollars like my web design business was doing. After about 5 years of doing that I started blogging about my hobbies and that is when I started making money without doing anything more than writing about what I love to do, my hobbies, and directing people to places they could buy things and learn more.
Now my office is in my home and I make money online blabbing about my various hobbies. Some of those hobbies are:
Fishing… Well I love to fish and always dreamed of making money at tournaments but now I blog and share my fishing experiences and even have a site where I sell fishing gear from eBay.
Guitar… A couple of my computer students introduced me to playing guitar and even though I couldn’t earn bus fare home I do love it and I am just now starting a new guitar site and will also have a site that will sell guitar products from eBay.
Gardening… This has been a dream of both myself and my wife. We haven’t even started our first backyard garden yet and we are already making money online talking about it. This is a hobby that will feed us as well. Love watching things grow, especially my bank account.
Travel… We are a bit addicted to travel. Even though my wife still had a couple of years before she is willing to retire we have plans to travel more and more. Sharing those experiences both positive and negative will help others avoid problems during their travels.
What hobbies do you have?
Not sure if you believe me or not? Go to Google and do a search for any those terms (Fishing, Golf, Knitting, TV and Books) and I guarantee you’ll find tons of sites on all of them and many of those site owners make money online with them. Some of them are even making A LOT OF MONEY.
So again, what do YOU LOVE to do?
Whatever it is, if there are other people who love it, too, then you can make money from it.
My wife used to complain about how much money I spend on fly fishing but not any more. I know how much I spend and I have a pretty good idea how much my fishing buddies spend along with millions of other fishers so I knew that I could make money online talking and promoting fishing in my neck of the woods.
You can turn your passion or interest into a $100,000 a year business on the Internet, with minimum work. Of course you still have to work, it just won’t be draining work when you love what you’re doing.
Put in the work and give yourself about 3 months to get the ball rolling. I gave myself a year to get this started but I was making money by three months just by talking about what I love, on my blog, every day or so.
The strategy you’re about to discover is a proven action plan that leads you step-by-step through the entire process.
In fact, it shows you exactly how it’s done…
…And how YOU can finally achieve total financial freedom by doing what you love…

Nice post! I agree.Starting a blog and posting regularly about a subject that you love and know about.Very simple and easy. When you get a routine of posting a new blog post every day it does not take much time. The money will follow if you keep doing it regularly from now on.
Thanks for this blog entry! The idea of “doing what you love” eludes a lot of people, particularly when they are choosing careers. You’re right – a lot of people don’t believe they can make a living and still enjoy their jobs. And why can’t you, really? I think sometimes not seeing a way to do what you love to do for a living is attached to not being able to envision a creative way to combine all your great loves into one career. I advise a lot of small business computer consultants that have started their own businesses, and many of them, before they chose this path didn’t realize that computer consulting isn’t really all about technology; a lot of it is about loving to work with people and the joy of solving problems. However, some that are not total technological geniuses might be initially be turned off by the thought because it seems to be so tech focused. Similarly, some people might play with gadgets and gizmos in their spare time but don’t always see how this could really translate into a career in technology. Thanks for this helpful illustration of how a person can assess what he/she might be happiest doing!
