popupI spend quick a bit of money online and I don’t mind spending it. I buy ebooks, join sites where I can learn more and buy products that make my life better but…

… I can’t stand pop up screens that get right in my face, usually before I even have a chance to read the page I’m on.

Pop-Up Pet Peeve - Why would anyone use a pop up before a visitor has a chance to learn about the site?

It just doesn’t make sense to me that anyone would hide their page with a big popup ad before I get a chance to know about the site and author.

Heck, it’s not like I am going to join your newsletter or buy something from you before I even know whether you are worth my time, let alone give you my money. DUH!!

I love using Google as my search tool and like any other search engine I can scan through the choices and eliminate sites that don’t get my interest. But even then I still come up with sites that use popups but because I found them in a search engine I can just close off the popup and page, return to Google and move on to the next site, never to return to the previous site.

Try An Exit Popup

I don’t like any popups really, but that’s just me.

If I were to use popups I think I would at least give my visitor an opportunity to read the page they landed on without popping up in their face. Instead I would let them read the page and when they decide to leave, well then I guess I could use a popup as they were leaving anyways.

I have actually taken the time to read a popup as I was leaving becaue their site didn’t turn me away. I have even followed through on the popup because they actually showed me something that made me stay. But only after I agreed their site was worth reading.

Personally I don’t call popups marketing. I just call them bloody annoying.
