I was first introduced to Wordpress after taking the Bloggers Paycheck course by John Yeo who showed me that Wordpress is by far the best blog platform that you will use if you are looking to make money blogging or start an internet business.

While it is true there are many other blogging tools, if you really want to establish yourself online and make money. Wordpress is the platform of choice.

Why?

An advantage here is that as it is open source, there are 1000’s of free themes you can use.  You also get literally thousands of free plugins. Plugins are tools that assist in greating great blogs be it assisting with back end tasks or additional user tools.

Wordpress is a world class application with companies like The New York Times and CNN selecting it as their prefered blogging platform.

Let me tell you a secret, you can also blog from your iphone!As someone that did not make money using PPC with iPhone, this was the best aspect.From my iPhone I can update all my blogs from anywhere.I actually blog whenever and wherever I want. The train, airport, even the beach. I put out the right message and information as soon as I think about it.I am always in contact with my auidence.

So you are now set to start a blog?  Keep in mind that you need to know what your passion is as you may  struggle to produce the content and longevity to keep blogging to make money.

Let’s briefly look at installing wordpress, the easy way.The first thing you need to do is register a domain name. That’s the simple part. There are plenty of domain registrars to choose from. I personally use planentdomain.com which is nice and simple.

Now, I don’t however use their hosting services, I use HostGator for the reason you get, unlimited disk, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited number of websites, which is very important if you find yourself with an online empire.Last, get FileZilla. This is a free FTP program that you will need to upload wordpress themes and plugins to your site.

Now that everything is setup, simply log onto your host account and acces the cPanel.  Within cPanel there is a tool called Fantastico, this is a utility that has a lot of scripts that you can install for your webiste such as ecommerce, forums etc.  But the one we want is Wordpress.

There are a number of options here, but Wordpress should be udner ‘blogs’ in the second header.Very simply, click Wordpress and ‘New Installation’.  Complete all the details, enusre that you remember your admin name and password, you will need to to log into worpress admin area to post to your blog etc.

Your blog is now up and running! I recommend that you do the following.

Now log into the administration area www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin and delete the “Hello World” post and any other posts or comments that are there by default. You simply go to Manage and then posts and delete.

Go to Manage’ and then ‘Pages’ and click on ‘About’.  Change the about information to your own.

Now go to the wordpress site.org and click on the menu item ‘extend’ and then ‘themes’.  Select from one of the many free themes that you like download extract.

Open Filezilla, put in your FTP details and upload your new theme.  Note that the file path is. Public_html ->wp-content -> themes.

There, you are done and can start to blog away and start to generate traffic.Wordpress is more then just blogging and posting.  There are a lot of plug-ins that really enhance your site and can add a lot to user experience, everything from social bookmarking tools, automatically insert adsense to postings and many more.
