Hobby Blogging Can Make Money Online If…

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

How much do you know about your hobby? How addicted to that hobby are you? Do you have a hard time NOT talking about it?

Answering those questions can tell you if you should persue blogging about your hobby because to make money online through your hobby takes dedication and some know-how to make your blog unique enough to get listed in the search engines where you will be found.

Being found for terms that no one searches for other than you and those you tell to search that term isn’t going to make you popular or rich.

I have a number of hobbies that I talk about every chance I get. I also love to learn more and more about my hobbies.

The more I learn the more I have to share and the more I share the more pages get indexed in the major search engines, especially Google.

Hobby Blogging Locally

Something that may help you get a better foot hold in your niche is to localise your content. Example: I live in New Brunswick Canada and I love to fish, especially fly fish but if I try to compete with all the fly fishing sites I will take years to catch up, if ever, but…

if I choose to talk about fly fishing in New Brunswick Canada I will have a much better chance to get rankings in the top couple of search engine results pages.

Be Sociable

I am not into a lot of social marketing through social networks but I am a huge fan of social marketing through blog commenting. I didn’t say blog spamming there’s a big difference.

Continuing with my fly fishing in New Brunswick example I would go and find as many bloggers that talk about fly fishing and I look for others in New Brunswick of course and then I read their blogs.

I not only read their blogs, I also subscribe to the ones I really like so I can quickly browse them through my news feed reader, Bloglines.

Every day or two I go through all the feeds I have collected and find posts that I enjoy or perhaps disagree with and comment.

Doing this right can land you a few new friends as well and it will benefit your own blog because others will read your comment and may even follow your link to your blog.

NOTE: Most people will avoid your site like the plague if your comments are just spam.

So be sociable and interact with other like minded bloggers.

I just wish I had jumped on Blogging Wagon a couple of years earlier than I did. It is so much more fun that the static sites I used to try to keep going. It seemed like so much more work that maintaining blogs. Although I still take on too much every now and then and have to take a step backward to keep sane.
