If your goal is to make money online you will find affiliate marketing to be the way to go. You don’t necessarily need money or even a website to promote affiliate programs. Although I should add that it is good to know about the products or services you are promoting so you may find that spending a little on an affiliate products will help you make even more money online.

A brief explanation of just what an affiliate program is:

What is an affiliate program?

affiliate programs, if not your own, belong to someone else and they are designed so that you help the owner make a living. You promote their products or services and you earn commission when others take action. By action I mean, based on the affiliate program, you will earn a commission in some cases for leads, credit cards is a good example here, you will also make commissions for sales you make.

Sometimes the commissions are big and sometimes small so taking the time to research the affiliate programs you are interested in so you know exactly how you can make money online with them. Affiliate income ranges from 5% to 50% on most items, sometimes even higher.

You will also find some affiliate programs offering sales incentives.

A great advantage to affiliate marketing is how cost effective they are for those just starting out. An affiliate program is usually free to join because you become part of their promotional work force. Affiliate programs lets you sell products without stocking any inventory so you don’t have any real overhead which means you don’t have to earn so much to profit which gives you more to spend on promoting.

Please be aware that you will need to spend some time on affiliate marketing, so even though they are free to join take the time to learn all you can, it only increases the size of your bottom-line.

It might sound like it doesn’t need to be said but trust me it does. Make sure you choose affiliate programs that are related to your main topics.

New and seasoned marketers alike tend to go a bit crazy with affiliate banners and links making their page a little hard on the eyes. Don’t overcrowd your site with affiliates banners and buttons. Use them where appropriate and in context when possible but keep them to a minimum, just keep the banners or buttons that convert to leads or sales.

When looking for affiliate programs I have a few places I go first:

  • Commission Junction – you will need to maintain some traffic with CJ otherwise they will deactivate your account. Plenty of affiliate programs here though and it gives you one place to find many affiliate programs and have all you income land in one place so it gets you to the bank faster.
  • Clickbank – Another great place to find affiliate products.
  • Amazon – Amazon is alright but the commissions are pretty small so I don’t do a lot of promoting here.
  • Link share – Link Share is just new to me but looks promising.
  • Affilorama – Mark Ling has done a great job here and gives you tons of affiliate programs to make money online with.
