Comment Spammers Forcing Me To Return To NoFollow on Comments

nofollowOver the past six months it seems I am waking to more and more comment spam. I moderate any and all comments but the time it takes each day is increasing and is most annoying as well. For this reason I have returned to NoFollow on my comments.

I thought using a DoFollow plugin would increase the number of comments and I was right, just not in the way I expected. Instead of increasing my comments with more relevant content I only attracted more spammers to my site than before.

I figure the Akismet plugin catches 95% or more of the spam but there was still too much getting through to keep the DoFollow plugin active.

I used the DoFollow plugin to help my readers as I like finding and using blogs that use a DoFollow plugin for comments myself. I don’t spam and I try to say something that will add to the blog post content for that page.

There are other plugins that will benefit those readers that take the time to comment with real content that will help my other readers.

I have switched back to NoFollow and will soon add a plugin that will show the commentors that comment the most and because I moderate those comments the spammers that don’t get caught by Akismet will soon give up trying.
