Amazon Kindle reviews laud the free wireless connectivity; you will never see a monthly bill, have to sign a service plan or make any kind of commitment for access to the Amazon online store. Whether you choose to jump on the bandwagon and buy the K2 or the DX, or wait for the technology to improve even further, Amazon’s leap into the ebook market is a big deal for the future of reading.
The original Kindle, released in late 2007, didn’t offer much in the way of a cool appearance, so when the second and third generation e-readers were being designed, the manufacturers took note. The K2 and the DX are sleek and trim, complete with intuitive ergonomics for good measure. The updated designs now resemble what people like to refer to as the iPod of text content. Of course looks aren’t everything and should not overshadow functionality.
Even though the Kindle 2 and the DX look great and are limelight grabbers, those things are just a bonus; not the original idea. Seriously though, as with a typical book, the cover is supposed to just disappear into the background as you are reading. Like any good novel, it is the content and not the cover that will be judged.
