But there is a better way of making money from giveaways. You will do even better if you have something to give away yourself, and use it to build your list.

1. Offer a valuable gift – something that people will really be grateful for.
2. Upload your gift and test your own opt in before the launch day. Most contributors will start promoting in the first few hours.
3. Have a paid product that people will see immediately when they have signed up for your gift. You could have this offer on the same page as the download link for the free gift. I find that a relatively low priced upsell works best ($5 to $15).
4. Send them the link to the download/upsell page in an email, even if your autoresponder already sent them there. This means they have another opportunity to buy your paid product.
5. Follow up with further emails in your autoresponder, giving them either useful information or more bonuses.
6. After that, you can start to promote your more expensive products (or affiliate products). Remember that the free gift should attract people who will be interested in your later promotions, so choose your free gift carefully.
7. Keep promoting the internet giveaway. If you don’t have a list, there are plenty of free advertising methods e.g. safelists. Do some promotion every day. This will add to your points so your gift is displayed higher on the list where more people will see it.
8. If you are offered an upgrade for contributors where you can get your gift a higher ranking, I always take it. It pays.
Last but not least, keep watching what is happening. Is your gift getting as many signups as others on the same page? How is your second offer making sales? Are your subscribers unsubscribing right away, and if so, why? There are so many things you can work on to improve your conversion rate.
