I started with Twitter when Twitter first came to online marketers but I really felt I had no use for it and saw it as complete waste of my time. That’s because I didn’t know how to use Twitter in the best way to build a list of followers and to earn from that list.

So, today, I’d like to talk with you about Coupdetwitter. It’s a course on how to properly get started with twitter, get lots of followers, and turn those followers into cash.

This is by no means a Social Media Purist, but still he teaches what he considers the “right way” to interact on Twitter & other Social Media platforms (hint: it ain’t by spamming people your offers). he has a number of years of success in the internet marketing realm

So, once again, here’s a quick recap of how you can stage your own Peaceful (or Hostile) Take Over using Twitter.

  1. First get a good network of followers going.
  2. Build relationships with your network.
  3. Get your followers to click on your links & tell others about you by retweeting your messages
  4. Make Money with Twitter.

I’ve shared with you simple ways to do steps 1 through 3.  I even added a dimension to step #3 which showed you how to put all that retweeting on HYPERDRIVE by providing things of value to your growing list of followers. But by now, you must be thinking that something has to be missing. Especially if you’re in business you may, at this point, be wondering if this is just a lot of wheel spinning and wasting your time talking to people.

HOW do I make money?

If you take the actions that I’ve been telling you about throughout this process you’ll certainly create a growing list of followers… most likely into the thousands and beyond but up till now we haven’t talked about how to tie it all together and start making some money with this newfound connectedness.

Here’s the thing. You Can make money using Twitter. But it’s got to be a carefully planned process because you can easily ruin your entire pot of soup you have been so lovingly stirring and adding ingredients to all this time. If you just start throwing tons of pepper into the pot now, you’ll ruin all your efforts.

What Twitter is?

Twitter is really a free-for-all, information gathering, networking, and socializing all going on at the same time, real time, all the time. It’s kind of like being in the middle of a crowded street in Los Angeles at rush hour.

People are going in all directions with a phone in one ear, a blackberry in their hand and hailing a cab with the other. It’s HARD to get people’s attention, and if you smack them in the head with a bowl of soup from your cart when they’re not looking they’re going to disengage… just like that. Poof. Relationship damaged. Do it a couple of more times and Kablooey. Relationship ended.

Not only that, they’ll probably be xxxx that you spilled soup on them.

There’s a few things to consider here, but the main idea is NOT to try and make money ON Twitter directly. It doesn’t work well. Nothing will get people to unfollow you faster. What you want to do is have a ratio of no more than 5-10% of your tweets even trying to promote your product or a product you’re promoting as an affiliate.

What we’ve been doing over the past couple of posts is gently stirring that pot of soup. Building relationships, getting people to click, getting people to retweet. Letting those aromas fill the kitchen and start making your followers hungry. You’ve got them retweeting your messages, clicking your links and now you’re going to want to entice them even more by dropping breadcrumbs that lead to your steaming bowl of luscious soup.

The key is to start interspersing all this great value with your own products. Links that lead your hungry followers to even MORE good value and FREE content that you provide, luring them off of Twitter and onto your own site. If you do not have you own site yet, there are certainly plenty of affiliate products you can promote. But I still do not send people straight to a sales page. You have to lull your followers away from the noisy street and into your tasty cafe. The content can be many things: teleseminars, webinars… the possibilities are truly endless as long as you think “VALUE FIRST“.

Once you get their attention directed at you and you alone THEN it is time to show them your real wares and convince them to buy your soup. You can even give them a taste of your soup to get them hooked before asking them to buy the entire bowl. By that time they’re hungry and they’re not distracted by all the noise going on around them.

So, that’s the big Twitter secret. To make money on Twitter, you have to get people AWAY from just Twitter!

There’s plenty more *soup* for you when you join Coup de Twitter! Members are given an pre-installed “Base of Operations” site that act as an easy place for you to place these ‘things of value’ that I’m referencing. Two Minutes To Change My Twitter Background

twitter logo headerIt was the strangest thing. I didn’t change my Twitter background for all my Twitter Accounts to get more followers. I changed it because I was on a Twitterer’s Account who had a great looking background so I thought I would do something similar just because it looked appealling.

Now I realize the backgrounds in Twitter can be very important. I have seen ones that really suck and I’m not sure what effect they were trying to get but it was wasted on me. Then there are those that use it to inform others about who they are and what the do, at a glance. The latter was what I did with mine and also added a full screen image behind my text.

My first attempt at putting something in the background of Twitter was to put my business logo there and I did. Later I started thinking that it just didn’t fit the niches I have. I needed something that would say who I am but also show what I do in that particular niche.

I was much happier with my Twitter pages as soon as I put up the images and it only took a couple of attempts to get the image just the way I wanted it.

I opened Twitter, logged into my account and went to Settings where I was able to set my colours and background image. It was pretty straightforward after that.

I have tried to create something that would tile nicely but never got that right so I went with a full screen background image.

Once I had the image I wanted I was able to set the colours I wanted for my Twitter page so they matched up a bit.

It wasn’t hard to do but I did have to take a little time to play with it so that it was exactly what I wanted.

Take a look at my Twitter page and you will see what I am talking about.

Image via CrunchBase

You’re asking why Squidoo? Well, since they launched the site has been an absolute Internet marketing phenomena.

Squidoo is a favorite of Google and it’s absolutely free!

It’s one of the easiest ways to gain more web traffic, thus getting you to the top of the rankings for long tail keyword, quickly and with the minimum of effort. However, it is a good idea to do a little more than just put a page up, so here are my top 10 Squidoo Marketing Tips:

1. Always create your Squidoo page with the keyword as your title.

2. Make sure your content is keyword focused. It is a good idea to keep adding fresh content on a regular basis. (But as always, be cognizant of your return on the time invested. It is no good spending hours dominating the search engines for a phase like
‘left handed basket weaving’. Sure you’ll be number 1, however, I’m sure no one would care.

3. Always remember, as top seo services always say,: the higher your ranking in your Squidoo category then the higher your rank will be in Google. (That same principle is being used by Google more and more, for example, videos have to become popular FIRST before being ranked in Google).

4. When submitting articles to the directories, always make sure one of the hyperlinks in your resource box your SQuidoo URL, hyper linked with your targeted keyword.

5. We’ll be talking a lot more about Social Bookmarking in weeks to come b, however don’t forget to social bookmark your Squidoo lens too! Bumpzee is always a good place to start.

6. Think of your Squidoo lens as another one of your web-sites. So, for example, if you are using any other marketing technique, such as classified ads or forum posting, then don’t forget to include your Squidoo lens as one of the targets.

7. Study squidoo FAQs. You are going to find out just how to tweak the engine under the bonnet. For example, You can check about their Lens Ranks automated algorithm they use to rank the lenses. They look at community ratings, lensmaster reputation, click through rates, frequency of updates, inbound and outbound links, rev-enue generated, and many other factors and give the lens a number.

8. Hop over to the home page of squidoo. Study Squidoo marketing strategy to your heart’s content. Always check out the forums.

9. And while you’re there, make a comment (or six) and add your link to your signature.

10. You might have gathered by now that Squidooing is a whole science by itself. Always think that many people earn a living by using Squidoo.

Finally you often find the best marketing tips on how to promote a site on the site itself (after all, they have a vested interest).

Here’s the advice Squidoo give themselves:

{Email it. To your friends, your mom, your boss. Don’t be shy about bragging, you deserve a little limelight! Email it to your family, friends or even your boss. Don’t be shy about bragging as you deserve a little limelight}.

Blog it. Post your lens to your blog. Send a note to someone you admire who runs a blog on your topic, and ask them to check out your lens. Sincere flattery gets you everywhere..

Link it. Link to the lens on your Facebook page, LinkedIn profile, Flickr profile, eBay auctions, email signature.. Create your own little traffic network and get discovered in more places. Wouldn’t you like to get found more online?

Group it! Check out a Group that’s always talking about your topic and request to join. Get friendly, get relevant, get feedback, get found. Compete. Stop by the Lens of the Day Group for inspiration from winning lenses. And if your lens is up to snuff, enter it in the contest..
