Do you ever think about how many sites you visit that just don’t do it for you? Do you ever bother going back to that site, on purpose? I know I try to avoid them if my initial visit is a negative one.

What Turns Me Away From Your Blog

Page Load Errors – The very first thing is the time it takes to load your page. If it’s taking too long I will stop my browser and give it another try. If I still can’t get the page to load I tend to move on unless that information was suppose to be of value. In that case I will bookmark the page and try again later, if I think of it of course.

Visually Hard To Look At

If I get to your page it’s ugly, too ugly to continue, I will leave and make a mental note not to bother returning. They would have to have some very important information to keep me there if it’s hurting my eyes.

Little To Zero Formatting

Arriving at a page that is all text with no breaks just turns me off. At the best of times I am not the best reader but having heading and breaks along with a few images to push points really helps me get through the content. But if the text all runs together without any breaks, like heading, I can’t bring myself to read the entire thing. Something seems to force me to click that back button or move to another site.

What To Do To Imporve

I have taken a step or two back and noticed that I do some of the things that turn me off when I visit other sites so I have made some changes, well I am in the middle of making those changes.

  1. I am keeping my paragraphs shorter and my content a bit shorter as well. I now create 2 or 3 posts instead of just one long post. It’s better for my readers and it’s better for my site because now I have 2 or 3 posts linked together.
  2. I try to keep anything out of my site that may incease page load times.
  3. I notice that I like posts that include images that are relevant so I am now doing my best to find images that match the content of my post. Remember a picture says a thousand words so you want it saying the right thing.
  4. To make things more attractive and easier to scan for those readers, like myself that scan content.

It’s amazing how just a few little changes can make your blog more appealling and you didn’t even have to change the content, just how it looks.
