dofollowI realized that the NoFollow tag was to keep people from gaming Google’s PageRank but I still wanted to get more people commenting on my blogs so I decided to add a DoFollow pluging to my Wordpress blogs.

I really thought it would be great to give credit to those that commented on my posts and I knew it was going to increase the number of spam comments but I have Askimet to control that.

Well after months of watching my comments and marking the spam that Askimet missed I got real sick of it all and decided enough was enough. It was time to remove that DoFollow plugin and find something better.

On the last PageRank update in Sept. 2008 my rank dropped to a zero. Not sure why but in my mind it was due to the DoFollow.

After seeing what others were doing about the DoFollow I noticed that most of them didn’t just remove the DoFollow plugin, they added another plugin that would list the top commenters in the sidebar without using the NoFollow. So the spamming stopped and the commenters still got credit for their comments.

Using the top commenter plugin seems like a win-win situation, but I guess time will tell. I am also hoping the Google will give me back my PageRank now.
