The Top Six Marketing Mistakes I Have Made
There are many reasons people don’t make a great opportunity like making a living online work for them. Most make one key mistake that holds them back and eventually they give up. Well I may not be the king of marketing mistakes but I have to admit that I have a thick skull sometimes and things just bounce off.
My Marketing Mistake #1: Slacking Off When It Comes To Market Research
I decided that I would like to make money from a few of my hobbies and jumped right in blogging about a few. I created a number of web sites around a couple of my hobbies and interests only to find later they didn’t produce. I was sure they would because I loved them.
As I started thinking about it I realized that I should have done some keyword research to see if there was actually a demand. I guess that gut feeling I had about their success was just a bad barrido.
Take the time to check out places like eBay and Amazon to see where your hobbies lie in the scheme of things. It didn’t dawn on me to do that at the time. I was just eager to get going.
My Marketing Mistake #2: If It’s Too Good To Be True, It’s Likely Too Good To Be True.
I have spent so much money over the years listened to hyped up sales messages about products that would make me rich. Man it’s embarrassing to think about how many times I have been sucked in. Like the saying goes, If it’s too good to be true it’s too good to be true.
I even tell myself this every time I see something that is hyped to the ceiling but then I step right into it. Today I do tend to be a little more careful and research things first. Thanks to a good buddy that is skeptical about everything.
Making money online takes time and effort, which works just fine for me.
My Marketing Mistake #3: Keeping One’s Focus
Keeping my focus has to be the hardest task for me as I am the most unorganized guy in my house. I am getting better at it but eventually I had to break down and get a journal to help stay focused and of course I now use my computer calendar to keep important things in front of my face.
I have to sit down at the end of each week and plan my goals for the next week or I will be off onto something else.
My Marketing Mistake #4: Not Owning Your Own Domains and Web Sites.
It’s been a while since I stopped making this particular mistake and I try to keep my friends, family and associates from doing the same mistake.
When I first started blogging I went the free route and found that not every one agrees with what I have to say. If for any reason you content doesn’t match the TOS on any site they have the right to shut you down and they will and have. All that effort gone in an instant.
Now my little empire has just over 20 blogs and still growing and they are all mine.
My Marketing Mistake #5: Writing Poor Ad Copy
I have little education and poor writing skills so my ad copy suffers. I usually get a friend and his wife, because they are both well educated and school teachers, to help me get my copy just right.
What I really should be doing is learning how to write my own ad copy. For me it’s a time thing. I am not willing to give up the time to learn how to write well, at least now at this time, but I don’t use bad copy. I am willing to pay to have it done right.
My Marketing Mistake #6: Forgetting The Importance of Proper SEO – Search Engine Optimization
There are tons of free content on search engine optimization and why it’s so important, use it.
Just that simple, if you don’t optimize your web sites for your niche keywords you asking to be ignored by the major search engines or to be listed for useless keywords that won’t earn you a penny.
This goes back to mistake #1. If you don’t do the right research you have already started off on the wrong foot and your search engine optimization strategy doesn’t stand a chance.
When you are preparing any content, whether it’s for your web site, blog, forum or article directories, you need to focus on the keyword phrase for that content. How will it work in the search engines to bring you targeted traffic. Answer that question before you ever post it any where.
I will add that I do well in so many niches because so many others fail optimize properly.
Taking the right steps and maintaining your focus can make you wealthy but making all these mistakes without learning to correct them will just leave you stress, broke and unhealthy.
