Tip of the Day : Webmasters Kit DOT com Won’t Get My Business by Spamming Me.
Image by itselea via Flickr Sometimes email spammers like Webmasters Kit DOT com just get to me.
I use Eudora as my email software and have been very happy with it. Eudora detects and removes about 98% of the spam I get every day, automatically. There are always some emails that do get through the filters but I can usually detect them at a glance, however there are those that still need to be looked at.
These are the ones that really bug me because they take me away from serious work but it’s something that has to be done, right.
The emails that get through are sneaky spammy emails and they can get under my skin if I don’t keep my focus. Well today one of those emails got under my skin. Maybe it’s because we went right down to a frost last night and I don’t want summer to leave.
This post is really a rant and I am letting off a bit of stream, I will try not to swear, too much.
I guess what I am talking about is email etiquette. I will use Webmaster Kits as my example as they are the latest to spam my email box.
I actually received two very similar emails this morning. The first from Webmaster Kits which has no mention of how they found me, who I am and what my web site says. The second was just the opposite, they made sure to mention who I am and what I do on that particular website.
My response to these emails was completely different from each other.
The email from Webmaster Kits DOT come basically pointed out the fact that I had requested the info yet I have no recollection of this at all. I must be getting old. Maybe it was from a while back so I checked the info on their link.
Currently Webmasters Kit DOT com has
- Zero PR
- Zero indexed pages
- Zero backlinks
- Cached on Aug. 06, 2008
This is telling me they are a new site. I think if Google removed them from their index they would not have any cached pages.
There was no info about me or my site in their email leading me to think they just bought me email address from a harvested email list.
Now the second email had an apology for using my email address but they also gave details telling me they know about me and my website. I had a completely different reaction to this email and will at least respond in a positive way.
It really burns my behind when people try to make it look like I belong to something and then send me a spam email marked as a private message. Places like WebMasters Kit DOT com.
I don’t mind being contacted for legit business like the second emailer did but spamming me won’t get my business.
So for future reference, if you are planning to spam your way to the top don’t bother go back and get a real day job.
There I feel better now time for another coffee.

I just got the same kind of email from them with the subject of “New Private Message from WebmastersKit.com”.
Unlike you I am going to reply and let them know what they are doing wrong. If others find this page after the date of this post and they are still spamming, they should be reported….!
This is a pet peeve of mine, too (getting spam that looks legit and gets through the filters). I, also, got the email today from webmasters kit. Word of mouth on the web is a powerful thng and if these people seriously want to succeed, they certainly are going about it the wrong way. Thanks for letting me have this mini-rant!
I was just checking my stats and I get alot of traffic to his post. I am assuming we are not the only ones that get a lot of spam emails from Webmaster Kit.
One more “victim” here. I wonder what’s the sign-up rate for such solicitations.
I received an email from Webmaster Kit earlier today and I am very annoyed that this scam has not been stopped yet.
Can you believe just how stupid webmasters kis and these other spammers really think we are? Same thing with crappy banner ads. If they want our business, they shouldn’t assume we’re stupid enough to click a link just because it has a hot girl on it. “Obama wants moms back in school, so here’s a teenager doing sit-ups!” …give me a break.
So they send this email to one of my customer sites that has nothing to do with website building. How odd and silly of them. I think I’ll answer and give them this site to see what people are saying, if they care.
They are still up to their tricks. I received the same email this morning. All it does is annoy those people who are legitimately link building for their site!
Same here, got an email from them this morning at 7:46 p.m. EDT.
Yeah I got a spam email from them today. I am forwarding the spam email to their webhosting company and I also let them know that I have forwarded their email.
