Using Wordpress SEO Capabilities Right Out of the Box Pretty Much Sucks
Image via CrunchBaseJust after the last PageRank update, just over three months ago, I decided to test Wordpress without using any plugins to see how it performs. I created three new Wordpress blogs and left them as is, right out of the box.
I chose to do this right after the last PR update so that I would have about 3 months to test my Wordpress blogs before the next PR update. In the past I am usually getting traffic and earning a bit of income in that time.
Once I created the three new blogs, after doing my keyword research I added content the same as I do for my other blogs, a post about every two or three days. I went to other related blogs and left comments pointing back to pages on my blogs the same as I do with the other blogs I have that earn money.
Even though I pretty much knew what the results would be I was still taken back by how poorly Wordpress performed over that time period. I expected to get poor results but it was almost like I didn’t even exist.
Today I am adding two plugins and will continue to test and run the blogs just like my other blogs and we will see what happens over the next three months.
The two plugins I will use:
- Dean’s Permalink plugin
- All-In-One_SEO
These are two plugins that I use on my other blogs and they seem to help, perhaps more than I ever realized.

I agree, Wordpress out of the box isn’t quite SEO friendly. It does need some plugins to make it more friendly.
