1. Pleasure books – These might include humor, adventure, suspense, mysteries, dramas, short stories, poetry, novels, fiction

2. Books of inspiration – These could be books concerning spirituality, religious topics, Scripture studies, stories from the heart, and certain types of self help topics

3. Guides For Study – These are reference books and may be on many subjects

4. How-to books – These are the do it yourself kind books and include self betterment topics as well as a a lot of others. This can also be How-to’s about becoming successful in a small business, how to master painting, etc. Any topic from A to Z can be included in a How-to format.

On the internet, more than offline, the best selling ebooks are often in the “How-to” categories. When choosing your topic, make sure it’s a topic that you do actually have some knowledge about or alternatively, make sure to hire a person who does.

If you believe that you’ve found a good topic, research if it is a topic that anyone is even likely to order a book on in the first place. Be sure you really do your research diligently for that one! Never forget that book publishers usually understand what sells. Like you, they are in business to turn a profit. If there was money in the topic, chances are that some intelligent publisher would already have produced a product having to do with the subject. So just do your homework intelligently.
